The Cougars have gotten off to their best start since 2004 when they won their first five games. Today in the second game of the double header they beat Beloit 6-3.
The offense had two good innings. In the fourth inning Corey Brown hit a leadoff homer to right, at that point to tie the game at one.
In the fifth inning the Cougars exploded for five runs. Walter Correa led off by reaching on an error by the shortstop. Todd Johnson then would double to center to drive home Correa. Gustavo Rosendo followed with a single to right to get Johnson to third. Matt Ray doubled to left center to drive home Johnson. Michael Lissman would triple to right center to bring home both Rosendo and Ray. One out later, a passed ball would get Lissman home.
The Cougars other scoring chance came in the second inning. Dowling led off with a single to center. Jake Smith then singled to right, and Christian Vitters put down a bunt that just died in the grass. He would reach to load the bases. Correa then grounded one to third, the third baseman threw home to force Dowling. Then the catcher threw to first to get Correa for the double play. Johnson struck out to end the inning.
Beloit hit two solo homers for two of their three runs in the game. Garrett Olson hit one in the second with two outs off of Brad Hertzler. Chris Parmelee then hit one with two outs in the sixth off of Scott Deal.
The other run for the Snappers came in the fourth inning. Mark Dolenc led off by reaching on a Correa error. One out later, Parmelee walked. Ozzie Lewis then reached on a fielder's choice, with Parmelee being out at second, and Dolenc getting to third. A wild pitch would then bring home Dolenc.
Hertzler pitched well for a spot start. He went four innings, giving up two hits and one run. He didnt walk anyone and struck out two. Scott Moore came in to get the final out of the game, Jair Fernandez looking.
