The Cougars offense is amazing, they got 19 hits and 13 runs against the Burlington Bees today. Kane County would win the game 13-5 to remain undefeated for the year after five games. This is the best start in Cougars franchise history.
Six runs in the first inning and four runs in the sixth really put the Bees away. Todd Johnson had four hits, all he needed was a double to get the cycle.
In the first inning, Jonathan Johnston led off with a single to right, then stole second. One out later, Corey Brown blooped a single to left to score Johnston, he would get to secodn on the throw home. Greg Dowling then took one over the right field wall to give the Cougars a 3-0 lead. Jake Smith singled to left, then one out later, Michael Lissman singled to left. Todd Johnson would then hit one to right for a three run homer.
The Bees would then come right back and score the next two runs. In the second inning, Clint Robinson would lead off with a homer to center. In the third inning, David Lough started things off with a single to the pitcher, then stole second. Mike Moustakas then singled to right. Jason Taylor followed with a walk to load the bases with nobody out. Robinson then singled to third to score Lough. One out later, Antonio Jimenez nubbed one in front of the plate, catcher Jonathan Johnston grabed the ball then went and stepped on the plate to force out Moustakas. Ryan Eigsti fouled out to left to end the inning.
Kane County got those two runs back in the next half inning. Michael Lissman led off with a single to left. Todd Johnson then triples to center to score Lissman. One out later, Johnston hit a sacrifice fly to left to allow Johnson to score.
More fun for the Cougars in the sixth with four more runs. Matt Ray led off with a double to right. Corey Brown then singled to center. Greg Dowling would single to left scoring Ray. Jake Smith walked. Christian Vitters then hit a sacrifice fly to center to score Brown. Michael Lissman followed with a single to center to reload the bases. A wild pitch would move everyone up a base, scoring Dowling. One out later, Michael Richard singled to center to score Smith. Johnston grounded out to first to end the inning.
Burlington would cut into the lead a little with three runs in the seventh. With one out, Alwin Perez walked. David Lough then reached on an error by Matt Ray. One out later, Jason Taylor doubled to center to score both Perez and Lough. Shawn Hayes then pitch hit for Clint Robinson, he would walk. Jamar Walton doubled to center to score Lough. A ground out would end the inning.
One more run for the Cougars in the eighth. With one out, Johnson singled to right. Richard walked. Johnston then reached on a throwing error by the second baseman, Johnson would score. On the play Richard would be out at second on a force.
The Cougars could've had more runs in the game. In the second inning, with two outs, Greg Dowling singled to right. Jake Smith was then hit by a pitch. Christian Vitters grounded out to end the inning. In the fifth inning, the Cougars would waste a one out bloop single to left by Johnson. In the seventh inning with one out, Brown singled to short. Dowling then doubled to center. With runners on second and third with one out. Smith flew to center, and Vitters was caught looking.
Burlington did have some chances in the game, they had eight hits and did score five runs. Cougar starter Scott Mitchinson had to get out of some early trouble. In the first inning Adrian Ortiz led off the game with a triple to right center. Mitchinson then struck out, Alwin Perez and David Lough. Moustakas walked, then Turner was caught looking to get out of the inning.
More trouble for the Cougars in the ninth inning for Nick Walters. Lough led off the inning with a single to third. One out later, Taylor walked, and Hayes was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Walters was then able to get Walton to strike out. Jimenez would end the game with a force out at second of Hayes.
