Somedays your not going to score eight runs, other days your not going to even get eight hits. Then there are days like today when you dont get any runs, and only get two hits.
The Cougars lost for the first time this season, to Quad City 4-0. Two bad innings, that's all it took to give up the four runs.
In the third inning, the Cougars gave up one run. Bryan Anderson walked to lead things off. A wild pitch would move Anderson to second. Charles Carter would then walk. Calvin Hayes then put down a sacrifice bunt, the ball went back to the pitcher. The pitcher Jeff Gray bobbled the ball and all hands were safe to load the bases. Daniel Nelson then hit into a double play, on the play Anderson would score. This would leave Carter and third with two outs. Gray got Casey Rowlett to ground back to him to end the inning.
An even worse inning would come the next time the Swing would bat. Colby Rasmus led off with a single to right. Adam Rodgers then grounded out to short, Rasmus moved up to second. Wes Swackhammer then blooped one into right centerfield. Rasmus went to third. A wild pitch would let Rasmus score and move up Swackhammer to second. Randy Roth then lined one to right center. Centerfielder Mike Massaro dove and missed. Roth would triple, with Swackhammer scoring. Bryan Anderson then was hit by a pitch. A wild pitch would send Anderson to second. With Roth coming home on the wild pitch throw. The catcher Raul Padron got to the ball and fired to second to try to get Anderson at second. Roth then came home. On the throw back home after Anderson was safe, Frnak Martinez threw back home. The throw was a little high. Otherwise I believe Roth would've been out, that plus I think that Padron kinda missed the ball. On the error Anderson went to third. Charles Carter then walked. After that Gray was taken out of the game, with Ronald Madej coming in. Carter would then steal second. Madej got Hayes to pop out to short for the second out. Daniel Nelson then walked to load the bases. Rowlett then grounded out to short to end the inning.
The Cougars did have some openings where they could've or should've taken advantage of. In the first inning, Mike Massaro led off with a walk, he was then caught trying to steal second. In the third inning with two outs, Justin Sellers was hit by a pitch. Massaro then singled to left. First and second with two outs. Nick Blasi lined out to right to end the inning.
In the fifth inning, Jose Pineda led off with a walk. After that Wilber Perez hit into a double play. Steve Kleen then walked. Sellers would hit into an inning ending ground out.
The sixth inning, Massaro led off with a walk. Blasi then popped out to second. Padron struck out, and Jeff Baisley grounded out to strand Massaro at first. Martinez led off the seventh by reaching on an error by the first baseman. Pineda, Perez and Kleen all popped out or flew out for outs to strand Martinez at first.
Jeff Gray made his first start for the Cougars and his first two innings where great. He got three ground outs and three strike outs on 20 pitches. THe next two innings he would throw 37 pitches and give up four runs.Madej and reliever John Herrera both pitched well.
Quad City had a few other chances to blow the game open. In the fifth ining with one out Rodgers walked. Swackhammer then singled to right to get Rodgers to third. Swackhammer got greedy and tried for the double and was caught. Roth then grounded out to end the inning. In the sixth inning, Anderson led off with a single to left. One out later, Hayes singled to left. Nelson would reach on a fielder's choice, with Hayes being out at second, Anderson moved along to third. Rowlett then grounded into a force out to end the inning.
Anderson hit a one out double down the right field line in the eighth. Herrera then got Charles Carter struck out looking. Hayes then grounded out to short to end the inning.
In the eighth inning with two outs, Blasi reached on an error by third baseman Roth. The throw went way to high. A wild pitch moved him to second. Anthony Recker then pitch hit for Padron. He would walk. The Swing then made a pitching change, Scott Vander Weg came in for Danny Borne. Vander Weg then got Baisley to ground out to end the inning.
Vander Weg gave up a led off single to Martinez in the ninth. Pineda then was caught looking. Perez would ground into the inning ending double play.
Even though Baisley dosent have a hit yet this year he has been playing fantastic deffrense. Baisley, Kleen, Sellers and Martinez have been playing great deffense.

Notes-Season Ticket Holder of the Homestand was Bob Yahr, who got to throw out the first pitch today. The Professor, needs to go stay with the accounting, because his pitch was a ball, plus his form was horrible. Hey Bob at least you didnt throw out your arm.
Thanks
