Peoria Chiefs at Kane County Cougars
April 9th, 2002, Game 2 of Double Header
Phillip B. Elfstrom Stadium, Geneva, Illinios

The Cougars just don't have any offense, at least not when it comes to having men in scoring position. The Cougars were 0-5 with runners in scoring position. Plus they had one runner thrown out at the plate. That equals out to not taking advantage of opportunities.

Jeff Fulchino started for the Cougars and just like his start before pitch pretty well. He last into the sixth inning. Giving up two hits, and one run. That run scored because of his wild pitch. He also walked one and struck out six.

The bullpen did ok, Elvis DeJesus did a fine job of relief work, in his one and two thirds innings. He walked one and struck out two. He came in with a runner on third with one out. Elvis got John Nelson to gorundout to third. Then he walked Jesse Roman. To get out of the inning he struck out Chris Duncan to get out of the jam.

After that Tyler Banks came in with the game tied going into the eighth inning. In the eighth he gave up a double but got out of the inning with a groundout. In the ninth he wouldn't be so lucky, and would be tagged witht he lose.

For the Chiefs Aaron Russelburg started and went five innings, giving up five hits, and one run. He did not walk anybody and struck out two. His friends in the pen helped out also, Ben Julianel and Jared Blasdell combined to go four innings, giving up two hits, one walk. They also struck out six.

The scoring started in the second for the Cougars when, Jason Stokes led things off with a single to first, off of the first baseman's glove. George Arnott then doubled to left to score Stokes for the first run of the game.

The Chiefs tied things up in the fifth when, Rick Asadoorian lead the inning off with a single to left. Chris Netwall was up next and with two strikes, I believe as he was swingin for a pitch, he foulded it off the bat then his hand and had to leave the game. Shaun Boyd then came in and laid down a sacrifice bunt to get Asadoorian over to third. Neil Simoneaux then walked. Fulchino then threw a wild pitch. On the play Asadoorian would score to tie it up.

In the bottom of the inning the Cougars would have a chance to break the game open. Michael Tucker lead off the inning with a single. Winton Zapay then sacrificed him over to second. Rex Rundgren singled to center. Tucker would then try to score, center fielder Rick Asadoorian then threw home and catcher Gabe Johnson blocked the plate well and Tucker was out.,br>
Jesse Roman lead off the ninth with a single to center. Chris Duncan then grounded out to first to move the runner over to second. Tim Lemon then struck out. Roman would move to third on a wild pitch. Gabe Johnson then poped one over the pitcher's mound that the pitcher Banks dove for and missed. The ball fell for a base hit, and Roman scored to put the Chiefs ahead for good.
