For the first time in 2007 the Cougars had the lead in a ball game, for more than a half of an inning. Unfortunatly it wouldn't last as they would lose 5-4 to the Beloit Snappers in their home opener.

James Heuser started for the Cougars and pitched relatively well in three and two thirds innings. He gave up a homer, but the thing that made it interesting is the four walks he gave up. James gave up only one hit and one run, while striking out two.

The Cougars offense semi woke up today, after being in near hhibernation in Burlington. They would score four runs, four hits. Two of those runs were because of errors.

In the second innning, Greg Dowling led off with a single to right. Jake Smith then reached on a fielder's choice, with Dowling out at second. A ground out would move Smith to second. Alex Valdez then singled to center to score Smith for the first run of the game. An errant pick off attempt by Snapper starter Alex Burnett, allowed Valdez to get to second. Mike Affronti then doubled to center to score Valdez. Jermaine Mitchell would ground out to end the inning.

Beloit did get one run back in the fourth inning. Chris Parmelee le off the inning by taking a pitch over the right center field wall, for the first homer in a game this year involving the Cougars. Later in the inning with two outs, Heuser walked William Luque. The Cougars would then bring in Jason Fernandez and he would hit Allan de San Miguel to put runners on first and second with two outs. Yancarlos Ortiz then flew out to left to end the inning.

Kane County added a run in the fifth inning, when with one out, Mitchell walked. Mike Massaro then hit one back towards the pitcher who tried to start a double play. The throw from the shortstop was wide, which allowed Mitchell to third and Massaro to second. Christian Vitters then grounded one to first. The first baseman threw home, I thought Mitchell was out at the plate, but the only thing I can come up with is he slid just under the tag. Massaro moved to third, while Vitters reached on the fielder's choice. Haas Pratt then lined to first. Dowling lined to center to end the inning.

Things started to go bad for the Cougars in the sixth inning, when walks would undo the good things that they were going offensivley. Parmelee led off the inning against Fernandez with a walk. Dan Valencia singled to left. Garrett Olson doubled down the right field line to score Parmelee. The Cougars then made a pitching change to bring in Pat Currin. William Luque would hit a grounder to second. Valdez then threw to Smith to get Valencia in a rundown. Smith then threw to Vitters for the out. Olson went to third, while Luque reached on a fielder's choice. de San Miguel then struck out for the second out. Brian Dinkleman pitch hi for Ortiz. He would be intentionally walked, after the first two pitches were out of the zone. Now the bases were loaded with two outs. Dan Santiestaban then saw four pitches from Currin, all four were balls. The walk would allow Olson to score. to tie the game.

After that the Cougars gave up two more runs in the seventh. With one out Parmelee walked. Valencia then took on over the left centerfield wall. In the bottom of the inning the Cougars tried to get back in the game, as they scored one run. Affronti led it off with a double to right center. Mitchell then put down the sacrifice bunt to get him over to third. Massaro would ground out to short to score Affronti.

Both team had a couple of more chances to bring home runners throughout the game. In the third inning. Masaro led off with a walk, then stole second. Vitters struck out. Haas Pratt then got called out after two pitches for stepping outside the batters box. Which goes down as a strike out. It is a new rule this year. Dowling then flew to center.

The Snappers had a chance right off the bat, with one out in the firs tinning, Dan Berg walked, stole second, and went to third on a throwing error by Smith. Joe Benson then poped out to second. Parmelee was caught looking to end the inning. In the third inning, de San Miguel led off with a walk. Two outs later, Berg walked. Heuser would then get Benson to ground out to third to end the inning. The eighth inning, with two outs. Santiestaban singled to right, then stole second. Berg would walk. Benson struck out.
