The Cougars offense lead the way again as they break off another big inning. Five run innings have become the norm at least once a game so far this season.

Chip Ambres, Will Smith, Adrian Gonzalez and Pat Magness all had two hits and one in the big sixth inning.

Ramon Castillo started and went into the sixth inning, he gave up nine hits during his outing. Ramon struck out five and walked nobody. Castillo retired eight in a row in the begining innings.

Chris Narveson went for the Chiefs and went five innings and looked impressive. He gave up one hit and one run. Chris also walked one and struck out six. The Chiefs bullpen simply imploded, and gave up everything. Matt Vrienga, Matt Vincent, Chet Medlock and Jeremy Cook combined to go 3 ip, 6 h, 7 r, 6 er, 2 bb, 2 k.

Mike McNutt was the only reliever used by Cougars manager Russ Mormon. He went three and one thirds innings, and only gave up one hit.


The scoring started in the top of the first when Chip Ambres lead off the game with a triple to right. Will Smith then grounded out to first, on the play Ambres would score.

The Chiefs would take the lead in the third when with two outs, Chris Morris singled to center, then he would steal second. Aneuris Diaz was next up and he also singled to center, this time to score Morris to tie the game. Diaz would also steal second. John Gall then also singled to center, Diaz would score.

Peoria would add one more in the fifth when Chris Morris bunted his way on to lead off the inning, He then stole second base. One out later John Gall hit a sacrifice fly to right to score Morris from third to make it a two run lead.

The Cougars finally had thier big inning for this game in the sixth when Ambres lead it off with a single to center. Smith then singled to center. After the Chiefs made a pitching change, Adrian Gonzalez then came up and singeld to right to score Ambres. Jim Kavourias then hit a sacrifice fly to right to score Smith. Pat Magness was next and he doubled to right. Miguel Cabrera then would also doubled to right to score both Gonzalez and Magness. The Chiefs would make another pitching change and Josh Willingham greated the pitcher by singling past the third baseman. Dominic Woody then hit a sacrifice fly to right to score Cabrera.

In the ninth the Cougars put the icing on the game when with one out Ambres walked. Will Smitht hen singled to center. Adrian Gonzalez then singled to center to score Ambres. Jim Kavourias then grounded out to short, but Smith would score on the play.

Notes-Tonight was 1 dollar beer night, and it more than was worth the price of admisson, and oh!! yes there was a ballgame going on at the same time. Well most of us noticed the game, I don't know but I would guess there were maybe 1700 or so students from the local college's who were just there for beer night
