Cougars Win!!, Cougars WIN!! Cougars WIN!!
The Cougars offense woke up, they got ten hits and scored five runs. Plus they finally hit a homer in 2007. Scott Deal pitched well, and the bullpen held.
The offense started off the second inning with one out, Christian Vitters singled to right. Jake Smith then singled to right center. Centerfielder James Rapaport couldn't pick up the ball cleanly and go the error as Vitters would get to third. Matt Sulentic then singled to short, Vitters would score.
The very next inning the Cougars would score twice. Jermaine Mitchell singled to first, he basically beat the play. Mike Affronti hit a homer to left.
Scott Deal started for the Cougars, he lasted four innings, and would give up two unearned runs. With one out in the fourth inning, Isaias Garcia singled to right. Luke Gorsett then singled to short. Donovan Solano grounded one down the line, First baseman Haas Pratt couldn't get it, he would be charged with an error. Garcia would score and Gorsett went to third. Willian Sandoval then reached on a fielder's choice with Gorsett scoring and Solano being out at second. Rapaport then walked. deal got Daryl Jones to ground out to get out of the inning.
The other two runs for the Cougars came in the sixth. Greg Dowling led it off with a double to right. One out later Christian Vitters walked. Jake Smith then singled one off of the pitcher to load the bases. Sulentic singled to left to bring home both Dowling and Vitters. Isaac Omura then singled up the middle. Mike Massaro would reach on a fielder's choice with Smith being out at the plate.
The Cougars batters got their bats started. Christian Vitters got his first hit of the year. Jermaine Mitchell showed off great speed by beating out the play in the third.
Deal did have to pitch around some runners in the game. In the first inning, Rapaport led off with a single that Deal and Pratt couldn't decide who would get the ball and who would cover first. Daryl Jones then grounded into a double play. In the second inning Omar Falcon led off with a single to left. Brandon Buckman then singled to left. Garcia flew out to center for the first out. Gorsett then struck out. Solano would ground to first, Deal got out of the inning.
In the third inning with two outs, Jones walked, and Mark Shorey was hit by a pitch. Deal then got Falcon to line to third to get out of the inning.
The Cougars brought in Brandon Dewing to pitch the seventh inning. Rapaport led off the inning with a bloop to center. Jones then followed with a bloop to left. Shorey grounded out to second for the firs tout. Dewing then got Falcon on strikes. Second and third with two outs, Buckman then flew to center.
T.J. Franco did a nice job in two innings of work, he gave up one hit. Scott Moore got the save, with one perfect inning.
