Wow, where did this offense come from the last couple of games. 25 runs and 34 hits. Thats amazing.
The Cougars would play bombs away again, this time they beat the Clinton Lumberkings 16-3. They would hit three homers, with Jeff Baisley hitting two of them.
This was only a seven inning game, maybe the Lumberkings were thankfull for that? In the fifth inning the Cougars scored eight runs, with two homers included.
The scoring started in the first inning as the Cougars took the early lead. With one out, Nick Blasi reached on an error by the third basesman. Frnak Martinez then grounded one back to the pitcher, Blasi would move to second on the grounder. A wild pitch then moved him over to third. Jose Pineda singled to third. The third baseman couldn't bare hand the ball to get the out, Blasi would score on the play.
The Kings tied the game in the bottom of the inning with a run of their own. With one out, Vallejo doubled down the left field line. One out later, Kemp singled down the left field line to score Vallejo.
Steve Kleen led off the second with a single to left. Wilber Perez then tried to sacrifice Kleen to second with a bunt. He would reach base saftly after the pitcher couldn't grab the ball. Anthony Recker then singled to short to load the bases. One out later, Mike Massaro would walk to force in Kleen. Blasi then singled to left to score Perez. Martinez would walk to force in Recker. Pineda hit into an inning ending double play.
Clinton krept closer in the third inning when the Cougars deffense went out to the boat behind the stadium on the Mississippi. Smith led off the inning by reaching on a throwing error by Cougar pitcher Craig Italiano. Vallejo then put fown the sacrifice bunt to move him to second. Whittleman singled to right to score Smith. Whittleman would steal second. One out later, Mehl walked. Valichka then popped one up near second. Perez missed a pop up for an error. On the play Whittleman scored and Mehl went to third. Italiano then got Herren on strikes to get out of the inning.
Anthony Recker led off the fourth inning with a single up the middle. Justin Sellers then doubled to left. Mike Massaro launched a homer to straight away center.
Then came the fun, ok maybe not if your a Kings fan, but their pitcher Garcia's inning kinda reminded Cougar fans of a certain 6'4" right handed pitcher from the Dominican named Lara then pitched for us for a few years in the late 90's. Jeff Baisley led off the inning with a homer to left. Kleen would reach on an error by the first baseman. The throw from the short stop was low, and it pulled the first baseman off the bag. One out later, Recker walked. Sellers then doubled down the left field line to score Kleen. Massaro walked to load the bases. Blasi then singled to center to score Kleen and Recker. Martinez would hit a three run homer down the right field line. One out later, Baisley singled to left, then moved to second on a wild pitch. The Kings then made a pitching change. Kleen greated the new pitcher with a single to center to drive home Baisley.
Kane County added a run int he seventh on another Baisley homer. This one to right center.
Craig Italiano went the first four innings, he was taken out with the lead, but couldn't get the win. His pitch count was a t 74 when he was taken out. He gave up four hits and three runs. only one out those runs were earned. he walked one and struck out six.
Brad Davis pitched another solid two innings out of the pen. He walked one and struck out two. He would get a double play in the sixth to erase a leadoff walk. We also had a Dan Fyvie sighting. he pitched the ninth inning, for his first action of the year after battling some injuries. He gave up a hit and got a strikeout.
It got so bad for the Kings that reserve infielder Hooft came in with one out in the seventh after Wes Long singled. Hooft got Recker to ground into an inning ending double play.
