Well they were not going to go 140-0, so the streak had to end sometime. The weird thing is that South Bend just got their first win of the year yesterday. Today they give us our first loss of the year. The Cougars lost 5-4 to the Silverhawks.

The Hawks got the lead in the first and never looked back. Evan Frey led it off with a single to center off of Cougar starter Scott Hodsdon. Taylor Harbin then doubled to center to score Frey. After that Hodsdon got Michael Mee looking, Clayton Conner on a fly out, and Anthony Smith swinging to get out of the inning.

Hodsdon would also have trouble in the second inning, but wouldn't give up any runs. With one out, Ramon Ramirez singled to center. Matt Oxedine then singled to left. Derrick Walker would walk to load the bases, still with only the one out. Frey hit one to Greg Dowling at first and he threw home to Gustavo Rosendo to get the force out of Ramirez. Hodsdon then was able to get Harbin looking to end the inning. After the strike out Harbin and Hawks manager Mark Haley were ejected.

Believe it or not the first run for the Cougars came in the fourth, it would be a solo homer by Greg Dowling.

Scott Hodsdon would retire the next eight men he faced after the fielder's choice in the second. His next trouble came in the fifth inning. Walker led off with a double to right. Frey followed with a bunt single to the catcher to move Walker to third. Harbin's replacement Elijah Rumler hit a sacrifice fly to right to score Walker. Frey would then steal second. Hodsdon would get Mee and Conner on ground outs to end the inning.

South Bend's big inning came in the sixth inning. With one out, Konrad Schmidt singled to right. Cougar manager Aaron Nieckula then brought in Scott Deal to take over for Hodsdon. Deal would give up a single to center to Ramirez. One out later, Walker would hit a three run homer to left.

After the homer, Deal settled down nicley. In the seventh inning he gave up a one out walk. He would then get the inning ending double play. After the walkk Deal retired the last seven Hawks.

Kane County did have a comeback attempt in them in this game. First off the Hawks pitching was good. Starter Jordan Norberto kept the Cougars off the board except for the homer. In the first inning the Cougars had a chance. With one out, Michael Lissman walked. One out later, Dowling singled to center to get Lissman to third. Norberto then got a force of Dowling at second to end the inning.

Chad Beck of the Hawks came in after Norberto and was good. He would pitch three one hit innings.

The one pitcher the Cougars did hit would be William Spottiswood in the eighth inning when they got three runs to make a game out of it. Rosendo led off with a walk. Ray then doubled to left to get Rosendo to third. Lissman then walked to load the bases. Corey Brown reached on a fielder's choice, Lissman would be out at second. On the play the throw to first by the shortstop would be off, Rosendo scored on the fielder's choice, Ray would score on the error. Dowling followed with a single to left to get Brown to second. One out later, Jake Smith singled to center to score Brown. The runners would move to second and third on an error by the centerfielder on the play. Shane Keough came in and pitch ran for Smith. Christian Vitters grounded out to first to end the inning.

Walter Correa led off the ninth with a walk. Rosendo then bunted him over to second. Ray would ground out to the pitcher. Lissman then grounded out to short to end the game and the Cougars win streak.
