The Cougars needed to save some of the hits with men in scoring positon they had yesterday, for today. They left five men in scoring position, and seven on base total.

Ryan Webb made his first Cougars start and made it into the sixth inning. He gave up eight hits and three runs. Webb walked two, with one of those intentional.

The Bees just were able to get the hits when it counted and the Cougars werent. In the second inning the Bees would score the first run of the game. Alan Moye led off with a single to left, then stole second. Rusty Brown would walk, which made it runners on first and second with nobody out. Webb then got Darwinson Salazar to ground into a double play. Eddie Solis would then single to center to score Moye.

The next inning the Bees would score their other two runs of the game. Geraldo Valentine led off the inning with a triple that just got over a leaping right fielder Kory Wayments' glove and hit the wall. Marlo Lisson would single to right to score Valentine. Brian McFall singled down the left field line. Webb would get another doubled play, this time Moye hit into it, and McFall would be out at second. Lisson scored on the play.

Burlington had another chance to score in the fifth inning. Irving Falu doubled to right to led things off. Falu would steal third. Valentine then popped up foul to the catcher for the first out. Lisson would get to a 3-0 count, then be intentionally walked. Webb would get his third double play when he snared a grounder hit back at him and would start and inning ending double play.

The Cougars, would get a one out homer to deep left by Gregorio Petit to start off their scoring. There was no doubt about whether it was gone, this was his third homer of the season and the second in the last two games.

Kevin Melillo led off the fourth with a single to center. Tommy Everidge then reached on a fielder's choice, it would've been a double play, but Melillo's slide prevented it from happening. A wild pitch moved Everidge to second. Two ground out would end the inning.

Kane County scored their other run in the seventh. Kory Wayment dumped one in between a couple of fielder's in center for a single to led things off. Chalon Tietje doubled to right to score Wayment to bring the Cougars within one run. Travis Chapman walked. Gregorio Petit would bunt to try to get the runners over, and the pitcher was able to grab it and throw Tietje out at third. Nicholas Blasi then grouned out to first for the second out. Wes Long would ground out to third to end the threat.

Melillo led off the eighth with a walk. Everidge and Leslie would strike out. Wayment then grounded out to short. In the ninth, Tietje led off with a single to center. Raul Padron would pitch hit for Chapman and strike out. Petit grounded into a game ending double play.

Keith Perez came in for relief of Webb and did a great job. He went two and two third innings, with out giving up a hit. In the sixth when he came on, With one out Rusty Brown doubled to center. That is when Perez came on, he would strike out Salazar and Solis to end the inning.

The next two innings he would let a runner get on base but would be able to wiggle out of the inning without giving up anything.

This Day In Cougars History (April 16)

1993, Second straight day every Midwest League game is postponed.

1994, The Cougars defeat the Clinton Lumberkings 5-4 behind a seven inning, five hit, nine strikeout performance from Marc Valdez.

1995, Cougars play an unscheduled double header versus Clinton at the Elf. Orginally scheduled to be played at Clinton the game is shifted to Kane County by league president George Spelius after Cougars manager Lynn Jones refuses to allow his team to risk injury by playing on the Kings rocky and rutted home turf.
