Kane County at Clinton

The Cougars almost lost another one, this time because of the lack of timley hitting. They left 15 runners on base, while the Lumberkings also left 11 on base. The fact that there were also a combined 11 errors in the game.

The Lumberkings had a runner left at third base in the seventh through the tenth.

Ramon Castillo started and went six innings, giving up nine hits, and two runs. Randy Messenger and Steve Sawyer pitched a combined four innings of shutout ball. Only giving up four hits.

Chip Ambres had three hits again, this time he lead the game off with a home run. Kevin Hooper also had three hits.


The scoing started in the top of the first when Chip Ambres lead off the game with a homerun to leftfield.

The Cougars then survived the second inning only giving up only one run. Dominic Anbosini singled to center. Phillip Downing then walked. Danny Rombley struck out. Drew McMillon then singled to left. On the play Ambrosini tried to score on the play but a good throw by leftfielder Will Smith and the fact that Ambrosini tried to run over catcher Dominic Woody, was a no win situation for Ambrosini who was out. Wilson Valdez then grounded one to shortstop Miguel Cabrera and Valdez beat the throw for Cabrera for an infield single. Brandon Watson then singled to right to score Downing. On the play McMillon tried to score and rightfielder Josh Willingham threw him out at the plate to keep it a tied game.

Another bad inning for the Cougars in the fourth when with one out Danny Rombley singled to third, on a play that the ball went off of the glove of Wilson at thrid. On a pickoff attempt Dominic Woody threw the ball into right field to allow Rombley to got to second. A wild pitch would move Rombley to third. Wilson Valdez then singled up the middle to score Valdez to give Clinton the lead.

The Cougars would tie the game up on an error by catcher Drew McMillon. Adrian Gonzalez lead the inning off by getting hit by a pitch. Pat Magness then walked. McMillon tried to throw behind Magness to keep him close to first base but threw the ball into rightfield. Gonzalez would score on the play with Magness only making it to second base.

Somebody finally scores another run in the top of the 12th. The inning started out with both Pat Magness and Josh Willingham walking. Miguel Cabrera singled to center to load the bases. Matt Easterday grounded to third, third baseman Vince Rooi lost the ball and was charged with an error. On the play Magness would score to break the tie.After both Woody and Hooper struck out to give the Lumberkings the first two outs of the inning, Chip Ambres, popped one up that Brett Boyer dropped. On the play both Willingham and Cabrera would score. Easterday would make it to third. Will Smith then lined one down the third base line to drive home Easterday.
