This offense is really good, if you havent noticed already. Six runs and nine hits to lead to the 13th win out of 14 games. The Cougars would beat Lansing 6-3 in game one of the road trip and of the series.
Three runs in the first inning for the Cougars. With one out, Matt Ray singled to left. Corey Brown followed with a double to left to score Ray. Greg Dowling doubled to right to score Brown.Jake Smith would single to center to get Dowling to third. Todd Johnson grounded out to second to allow Dowling to score.
The Lugnuts did come back to score one run in the second inning off of Cougar starterJamie Richmond. With one out, John Tolisano singled to second. Manuel Rodriguez doubled to right to get Tolisano to third. Johermyn Chavez singled to left to score Tolisano. Richmond would be able to get Michael McDade to ground into the inning ending double play.
Matt Ray led off the third inning with a single to left, then stole second. Brown would walk. Dowling would then ground into a double play, on the play Ray moved to third. Smith doubled to left to score Ray.
Lansing scored two runs in the fifth inning to cut the lead back down to one. Chavez led off with a double to left. McDade walked, Cougar manager Aaron Nieckula then brought in Justin Friend in relief of starter Jamie Richmond. Moises Sierra then grounded into a double play, Chavez moved to third. Justin Jackson would be single to left to score Chavez. Keven Aherns tripled to center to score Jackson. Friend would get Darin Mastroianni on strikes to end the inning.
Kane County iced the game in the seventh with two more runs. With one out, Michael Lissman singled to left. Ray would be hit by a pitch. Brown reached on a fielder's choice with Ray being out at second and Lissman getting to third. Dowling walked to load the bases with two outs. Smith would single to left to score both Lissman and Brown.
Cougars pitching and deffense would get four double plays. Smith had three hits and drove in three runs.
