The Cougars bats heated up along with the weather. They scored ten runs in route to their win in game two of the series against the South Bend Silver Hawks. 17 hits, 10 runs and 5 errors by the Silver Hawks led to a Cougar win.

The Cougars started it off right away. Mike Massaro led off the first inning with a single to center, then stole second. Two outs later, Jeff Baisley doubled to left to score Massaro. Steve Kleen then reached on an error by shortstop. Baisley would score on the error. Jose Pineda singled to right, Kleen went to second. Wes Long would ground out to end the inning.

Four runs in the third inning for the Cougars, and it could've been more. Frank Martinez led off with a walk. Baisley then lined one to right for the second out. Kleen singled to right. Pineda singled to left to score Martinez, both runners would move up on the throw home by the left fielder. Long singled to right, the right fielder trapped the ball, both runners held at their bases to make sure it wasnt caught. Bases loaded with one out. Anthony Recker singled to short, on the play Kleen scored. Justin Sellers then reached on a fielder's choice with Recker out at second, Pineda would score on the play. Massaro singled to short to score Long. On the throw to first the ball would get away, and let Sellers and Massaro move up an extra base. Nick Blasi grounded out to end the inning.

Three more runs in the fourth inning would help seal the win for the Cougars. Martinez led off with a walk, then stole second. Baisley singled to center to score Martinez. Kleen would reach on a fielder's choice with Baisley out at second. Pineda singled to left. For some reason Kleen tried to be really aggressive and go first to third on a play in front of him and he would be thrown out at third for the second out. Long would reach on another errror by the shortstop. Pineda would score on the error. Recker singled to short. The Hawks then brought in a new pitcher. Sellers greeted Kyle Wright with a single to left. Long would score on the play, Sellers moved to second on a throwing error by the left fielder. Massaro then grounded out to end the inning.

Meanwhile, Vince Mazzaro started for the Cougars and besides a little rough spot int he second and third innings pitched well. He would get his second win of his professional career. In the second inning, Bryan Byrne led off with a single to center, then stole second. Two outs later, Trey Hendricks singled to center to bring home Byrne. In the third inning, with one out, Pedro Ciriaco singled to left. Greg Thomson walked. Travis Gulick then reached on a fielder's choice, Thomson was out at second, Ciriaco moved to third. Bryne then followed with a double to left to score both Ciriaco and Gulick. Mazzaro then was able to get Leyson Septimo to ground out to first to get out of the inning.

The only other time Mazzaro or for that matter any Cougar pitcher had any problems was in the fourth. Frank Curreri led off with a single to right. Hendricks then flew out to center, Curreri had strayed to far from first and would be doubled off of there. After that no Hawks batter reached base the rest of the game. 16 in a row. Five of them on strikes, seven of the outs didnt leave the infield. Brad Davis pitched two perfect innings. Joe Piekarz and Brad Kilby pitched one perfect inning each.

Anthony Recker had four singles in his five at bats. Massaro reached base three out of the four times he came up from the leadoff spot. Martinez got two walks. Kleen reached base four out five times he came to bat. The other run the Cougars scored came in the seventh inning. With one out, Jeff Bieker pitch hit for Massaro and would reach on an error by the shortstop. One out later, Martinez doubled to center to drive home Bieker.

Kane County had two other chances to score runs. In the sixth inning, Kleen led off with being hit by a pitch, then stole second. Pineda struck out, Long and Recker both flew out to center to end the inning. In the eighth inning with two outs, Long singled to left. Recker singled to right. First and second two outs. Sellers grounded one back to the pitcher.
