This time its was two bad innings that did in the Cougars against the Lugnuts. Lansing won 6-3, to make the Cougars 1-10.

Craig Italiano started for the Cougars tonight and pitch good for his first start of the season. He lasted three innings, but he struck out four and walked two. Craig had really only one tough inning where he got knocked around, that was the third.

The Cougars bats did wake up a little tonight as they did have 12 hits. Larry Cobb, Mike Affronti, Greg Dowling, Christian Vitters, and Jake Smith all had two hits. Equally impressive is Gustavo Rosendo who had three walks in five plate appearances.

Kane County scored first in the first inning, Cobb led off the game with a single to left, he would be caught trying to steal second. One out later, Greg Dowling singled to center. Rosendo then walked. Vitters singled down the right field line to score Dowling. In the second inning Matt Sulentic led off with a single to second. Alex Valdez then singled to right. The rightfielder bobbled the ball allowing the runners to move up a base. Jermaine Mitchell then reached on a fielder's choice, with Sulentic being out at home. Cobb would also reach on a fielder's choice with Mitchell being out at second, on the play Valdez scored.

In the bottom of the first inning the Lugnuts would tie the game with a run of their own. Scott Campbell led off with a double down the left field line. One out later, Travis Snider grounded out to short, on the play Campbell would move over to third. A passed ball by Smith would allow Campbell to score. In the second inning Italiano did a nice job of getting out of trouble. Sean Shoffit led off with a walk. Chris Emanuele then singled to short. Runners on first and second with nobody out. Italiano then struck out Matt Lane. He would then get Chris Gutierrez and Brian Bormaster to fly to right to get out of the inning.

The roof fell in on the Cougars in the third and fourth innings. Campbell led off the third inning with a double down the left field line. Italiano then would get Yuber Rodriguez looking. Snider singled to short. Josh Bell then singled to right to score Campbell. Bell would get to second on an errant throw from Cobb. Shoffit hit a liner off of first baseman Dowling's glove and down the line. Both Snider and Bell would score. Emanuele then walked. Italiano hit Lane to load the bases with one out. Gutierrez would line into a double play to thanfully end the inning. In the fourth inning with two outs, reliever T.J. Franco would find trouble. Rodriguez singled to short. Snider then tripled to left center to score Rodriguez. Bell singled to left to score Snider. Shoffit would double off the top of the wall in left, Bell would get to third. Lansing and our announcer Jeff Hem both thought that it was a homer. Emanuele would walk to load the bases. Franco then was able to get lane to fly to right to end the inning.

The final tally of the game was the Cougars. In the seventh inning they would score one run. With one out, Affronti singled to right. Dowling then reached on a fielder's choice with Affronti being out at second, not a double play all because of a good slide by Affronti. Rosendo walked. Vitters then singled to left to score Dowling. The Cougars had the tying run on first with two outs. The Lugnuts then brought in Seth Overbey to pitch. Sulentic would fly to center to end the threat.

The Cougars did have a couple of more chances in the game. In the third inning, Dowling led off with a single to right, he was the picked off of first. In the fourth inning Smith led off with a double down the left field line. Two groundouts and a pop out later, they were headed back onto the field. The fifth inning, Cobb led off with a double to right. Affronti walked. One out later. Rosendo walked to load the bases. Vitters then lined to short, and Smith poped to short to end the inning. In the ninth inning Affronti led off with a single to left, a double play and a strike out later, the game was over.

The Cougars made a roster move today, putting Haas Pratt on the disabled list, and getting Larry Cobb from extended spring.

I think in Chicagoland sports there can be only one good thing happen in any givin day. The Bulls lost, the Cougars lost, and Mark Buehrle throws a no-hitter for the Sox.
