Kane County Cougars at Clinton Lumberkings

The Cougars after a slow start found their bat again and pounded out 12 hits to win thier eighth game of the season.

Brad Haynes started his third game of the year and this one was a drastic improvement over his first two game. He went six innings and gave up two hits, and two runs. Only one of the runs would be earned. Brad only walked two and he also struck out three. Haynes at one point retired six in a row. Nine of the 13 outs he recorded by non strike outs, were on the ground.

Hansel Izquierdo then came in and pitched three innings to earn the save. He gave up only two walks.

Kevin Hooper had a big day he went 3-4 with three singles and two RBI's, plus he scored a run. Adrian Gonzalez also had a good game RBI wise, in which he drove home three runners. Dominic Woody also had two hits.


The scoring started in the first for the Lumberkings when Brandon Watson lead off the inning with a single to left, then stole second base. Brett Boyer then got him over with a grounder to first. Grady Sizemore then drove him home with a grounder to third base.

The Cougars came back in the top of the next inning when with one out Josh Willingham walked. Dominic Woody then executed a good hit and run play to get Willingham to third on Woody's single to right. Kevin Hooper then grounded to third. Third baseman Vince Rooi got to the ball then threw wild to first, the ball got past the first baseman for an error. Willingham would score with Woody going to third, and Hooper at second.

Kane County would take the lead in the sixth when Miguel Cabrera lead off the inning with a single to center. Josh Willingham then followed with a single of his own. Dominic Woody then blooped one to center to load the bases. Kevin Hooper then singles to center to score Cabrera. Chip Ambres then hit a sacrifice fly to center to score Willingham. Adrian Gonzalez then doubled to left to score both Woody and Hooper.

The Lumberkings would chip away at the lead in the bottom of the inning when Brandon Watson bunted one in front of home plate, Woody tried to get him at first but the throw pulled Gonzalez off the bag. Watson then stole second and advanced to third on a wild pitch. One out later, Grady Sizemore would ground out to second, on the play Watson would score.

The Cougars added an insurance run in the ninth when Will Smith lead off with a double to left. Adrian Gonzalez then sinlged to left to score Smith.
