Kane County at Peoria

April 20th, 2004

Somehow the Cougars are making it happen in the late innings, unfortunatly they almost always wait till the eighth or the ninth to score the needed runs to win the game. Tonight an error in the ninth helped get the Cougars a two extra run cushoin going into the bottom of the ninth.

The Cougars took the lead early in this game, in the first inning. Brian Ingram doubled to left. Luke Appert then doubled to right to score Ingram. David Castillo then grounded out to second, on the play Ingram moved to third. Eddie Kim then singled to center to score Appert.

Peoria would cut the lead in half in the third inning. Anthony Monegan would ground one to second, on the play second baseman, Luke Appert would throw the ball into the dugout. Brenden Ryan then doubled to center to score Monegan.

Dustin Majewskihit a solo homer to center with one out in the sixth for his first of the season. The Cougars added one more in the next inning. Chris Tritle singled to left. Ingram then doubled to center to score Tritle.

In the seventh, the Chiefs scored two runs to get back in the game. Matt Pagnozzi started things off with a double to left. Mike McCoy was caught looking. Anthony Monegan then grounded one back to the pitcher Chris Dunwell. He would throw the ball to the shortstop Brian Ingram at second to start the double play. The only problem is that he threw the ball into centerfield. Brenden Ryan then struck out looking, it would've been a double play but catcher David Castillo threw the ball into centerfield. On the play Pagnozzi scored and Monegan went to third. The Cougars then made a pitching change to bring in Adiel Sanchez, he would'nt be in long. Sanchez gave up a single to Cody Haerther to second. On the play he just beat the throw, unfortunatly Monegan would score on the play. Again the Cougars owuld make a pitching change and bring in J.R. Pickens. Pickend gave up a single to center to Terry Evans. Both runners would move up a base on a wild pitch. Sal Frisella then grounded out to second to thankfully end the inning.

The good news is that the Cougars would add on a couple more runs in the ninth, the bad news is that those runs were almost needed for the come from behind win. As the Chiefs loaded the bases in the eighth. John Santor led off with a single to left. Kyle Boyer then pitch ran for him. Matt Dryer then put down a sacrifice bunt. Only one problem the Pickend and Castillo couldn't decide who should take it and that lead to Dryer being safe. Pagnozzi put down another sacrifice bunt to move the runners over. Mike McCoy was walked intentionally to load the bases. Jairo Garcia came in for Pickens. Garcia would get Monegan to ground into a inning ending double play.

For the Cougars these ninth inning things are getting routine. With one out, Chris Tritle would draw a walk. Ingram then singled to center. Luke Appert would pop out to short. Castillo would walk to load the bases. The Chiefs then made a pitching change. Eddie Kim then somehow came up with the bases loaded again. This time he hit one to second. The second baseman let the ball get under his glove for an error. On the play Tritle and Ingram would score.
