This is really starting to get frustrating, im scratching my head on this one. How can our defense be so bad, and how can our offense not exist when there are runners on base.
The Cougars lost for the sixth straight time at home, this is the longest home losing streak to begin a season in team history.
The Swing started things off against the Cougars in the first inning with three runs. Matt Lemancyzk led off the game with a bouncer to third. Thirdbaseman Wes Long threw high to first for an error. On the play the ball was over thrown and hit off of the wall and bounced off and the second baseman got the ball. He threw to Tommy Everidge at first and they got Lemancyzk off at first after he over slid the base. Matt Shepherd then grounded one to second. Ryan Ruiz made an error on that play. Joe Mather would make the Cougars pay for the errors with a two run homer to left. Mike Ferris followed with a single to center. Derry Hammond singled to center to make it runners on the corners with one out. Brady Toops grounded out to first for the second out, Ferris would score. Jarrett Hoffpauir walked. Finally , Joe Mullinax would ground into a force to end the inning.
The Cougars came right back in the bottom of the inning with a run of their own. With one out, Ruiz singled just past the third baseman. Kevin Melillo then singled to right. One out later, Raul Padron singled to center to score Ruiz. Chalon Tietje struck out to end the inning.
After that Cougars starter Steve Sharpe settled down a little. He allowed a led off single in the second inning. A liner and a double play would get him out of trouble. In the third it was a two out double, but a grounder ended the inning. The fourth inning, he walked both Hoffpauir and Mullinax. One out later, Lemancyzk would hit into an inning ending double play.
The fifth inning would be diffrent he wouldn't be able to get out of the trouble. With one out, Mather walked. Ferris would reach on catchers interference. Hammond then walked which would load the bases with only the one out. Toops then lined one through the middle that took Sharpe's glove off on its way by. Mather would score. The Cougars then made a pitching change, Jared Trout came on in relief. Hoffpauir greeted him with a single to left to score Ferris. Mullinax then lined one to left to let Hammond score on the sacrifice. Wes Swackhammer then struck out to end the inning.
Kane County got two runs of their own in the bottom of the inning. Long led off by reaching on an error by the short stop. Chris Tritle would hit a ground rule double to center. Gregorio Petit then grounded out to short to allow Long to score. Nick Blasi would ground out to second to let Tritle score. Ruiz then walked. Kevin Melillo poped out to third to end the inning.
Trout would let a one out walk reach, then be able to erase that with an inning ending double play. In the seventh inning, James Heuser came on, with two outs, Toops walked. Hoffpair would reach on an error by Long. The throw would be high and Everidge would be able to get the tag on him. Toops went to third on the error. A wild pitch let Toops score.
The Cougars scored a run in the sixth inning. Everidge reached on an error by the short stop. His throw went sailing into the stands, and Everidge would be on second on the error. One out later, Tietje singled to right to score Everidge. One out after that, Tritle singled to left. Petit would reach on an error by the shortstop. The bases were loaded with two outs, Nick Blasi would end the inning with a force out.
In the eighth inning it was more fun for the Cougars faithfull. Swackhammer led off with a walk. He would be caught stealing. Lemancyzk then lined to left. Shepherd walked. Mather then grounded out to third. In the ninth inning things could've gotten out of hand. With one out, Hammond walked. Simon Williams pitch ran for him. Toops then singled to left. Hoffpauir lined to center, both runners would tag up on the liner. Cougar pitcher, Robert Semerano then got Mullinax to ground out to first to end the inning without any damage.
Padron led off the eighth inning with a walk. He would quickly be erased by a double play. In the ninth inning with one out, Blasi walked. The Swing then brought in Jaymie Torres. Ruiz was hit by a pitch. Melillo lined one into the right field corner for a double. Blasi would score, I don't know why they didnt score Ruiz. Everidge would strike out. Torres threw two balls to Padronand would end up intenionally walking him. Kory Wayment went into pitch run for him. For some strange reason Chalon Tietje hit the first pitch he saw, and flew out to right to end the game.
