Wow, who is this team. Now that was great to see out of the Cougars. I just hope that they didnt score all of the run for the series in one game.
The Cougars scored 13 runs on 14 hits, the Chiefs had 4 errors. It was the Cougars second win of the year in 14 games.
The scoring started in the bottom of the first, the Cougars would get two runs. Larry Cobb started things off with a single to center. Alex Valdez then singled to right. The right fielder tried to get Cobb out at third, the throw was air mailed into the stands. At first the umps were going to just give him third base, but after consultation with Chief manager Ryne Sandberg, they allowed him to score. Valdez also went to secon on the throw. A ground out by Greg Dowling moved Valdez to third. Jake Smith grounded out to short to allow Valdez to score.
Peoria did cut the lead in half in the third inning. Jason Lansford (brother of former Cougar Jared Lansford) led things off with a single to left. Two outs later, Andrew Lopez singled to center to allow Lansford to score. The Chiefs would tie the game at two in the fourth inning. With one out, Alfred Joseph singled to center. One out later, D.J. Lewis blooped a single to right to allow Joseph to score.
The Cougars had a great inning in the fourth inning when they broke out with five runs. Christian Vitters led off with a single to right. Todd Johnson then doubled to left center. Mike Affronti then grounded one to short, the short stop threw home to get Vitters. The throw got past the catcher to allow Vitters and Johnson to score, Affronti would make it to second. One out later, Mike Massaro lined one down the right field line just past the first baseman to score Affronti. Larry Cobb singled to right center to score Massaro. Cobb then stole third. One out later, he would score on a wild pitch.
Peoria scored another run in the fifth inning. Dylan Johnston led off with a single to second. A groundout later, moving him to second, then a wild pitch moved him to third. Andrew Lopez reached on an error by Affronti, that allowed Johnston to score.
Another three runs for the Cougars in the fifth inning for the Cougars. Jake Smith led off with a walk. Isaac Omura then pitch hit for Vitters, who was hurt while coming home the prevoius inning. He would pop out. Johnson then singled to left. Mike Affronti then doubled to left, the left fielder basically just got him self turning the wrong way and fell down. Affronti would get a double and Smith and Johnson scored. After that the Chiefs pitching coach David Rosario was tossed for arguing. Matt Sulentic then reached on an error by the shortstop. Affronti made it to third. Massaro then singled to second, Affronti would score.
More runs for the Cougars in the seventh inning, Todd Johnson led it off with a single to right. Affronti then walked, both would move up a base with a wild pitch. One out later, Massaro walked to load the bases. Cobb singled to left center to score both Johnson and Affronti. In the eighth they would score their last run of the game. With one out, Vitters walked. Johnson then doubled to center to score Vitters.
Larry Cobb, and Todd Johnson both had four hits. John Herrera pitched six innings, giving up seven hits and three runs. He would walk three and strike out five. Pat Currin and Scott Moore both gave up a hit in their outings of work. They both also struck out two Chiefs apiece.
