Kane County would get six runs on eight hits and hang on in the ninth for a 6-4 win over the Great Lakes Loons. This is there 15th win of the year in 17 games.
Michael Richard had three hits and scored three runs while being in the leadoff spot. Craig Italiano started for the Cougars and pitched ok, he went five innings, giving up three hits and one earned run.
The Cougars led off the game by scoring a run. Richard started things off with a single to right, then stole second. A ground out by Matt Ray would move Richard to third. Richard then scored on a wild pitch by Loon start Bryan Morris. In the bottom of the inning the Loons would even the score. Jovanny Rosario singled to left. Erik Kanaby then grounded out to the pitcher, Rosario moved up to second, then would get to third on a wild pitch. One out later, Andrew Lambo walked. Pedro Baez would single to left to score Rosario.
Richard again started things off, this time in the third with a single to the catcher. Ray singled to right to get Richard to third. Corey Brown would hit a sacrifice fly to left to score Richard. The Loons again evened the score, this time in the fourth. Baez led things off by reaching on a throwing error by third baseman Christian Vitters. Joe Becker singled to center to get Baez to third. Scott Van Slyke then hit a sacrifice fly to left to score Baez.
Kane County took the lead for good in the sixth inning. Michael Lissman walked to lead things off. Lissman would be caught stealing second. Todd Johnson and Matt Smith walked. A balk by reliever Geison Aquasviva got the runners to second and third. A passed ball by catcher Kenley Jansen would allow Johnson to score, and get Smith to third. Vitters struck out, and Shane Keough lined out to end the inning.
Two runs for the Cougars in the seventh would stretch out the lead. Richard led off with a single to short, then stole second. Two outs later, Greg Dowling singled to right to score Richard. Dowling would get to second on an error by the right fielder/ Lissman then singled down the line to right to score Dowling.
The final Cougar run came in the eighth inning with one out. Vitters walked. He would get to second on a throwing error by the catcher. Keough singled to left, Vitters got to third ad Keough went to second on the throw. The Loons then made a pitching change. Miguel Sanfler came in, and before he made a pitch, he would balk home Vitters.
Great Lakes did score a run in the seventh inning off of reliever Scott Moore. With one out, Kenley Jansen doubled down the left field line. A wild pitch got him to third. Moore then hit Parker Dalton. Another wild pitch would allow Jansen to score.
The ninth inning for the Cougars in the field was not easy to listen to, but they would get it done anyways. Branden Dewing started the inning off pitching. Becker led off by reaching second on a throwing error by Vitters. The Cougars then brought in Justin Friend. Friend walked Van Slyke. Dowling made a nice play on a grounder by Jansen to get the first out of the inning. Second and third with one out. Dalton would ground one to third. Vitters for some reason threw to second to for some reason try to get Van Slyke at second. Becker scored, and Dalton reached first. Runners on first and second with one out and one in. The Cougars would be up two runs. Friend would get Rosario on strikes. Kanaby walked to load the bases. The winning run was now on first. Jamie Ortiz would strike out to end the game.
