Clinton Lumberkings at Kane County Cougars
April 22nd, 2001
Phillip B. Elfstrom Stadium, Geneva, Illinios
The Cougars offense was in neutral during the first half of the game
as they only produced four hits, and no runs. After that they scored
four times and had six hits. Jim Kavourias contributed to the production
as it was his game winning two run homer over the scoreboard that made
the diffrence for the Cougars.
Ramon Castillo started for the Cougars, he went six innings, and
did not look sharp. He was getting hit, and the Kings hit mostly line
drives off of him. He also walked four and struck out five. Ramon
eventhough he was getting hit hard, still was able to pitch out of some
very tough jams and did a good job.
The bullpen then did a great job as they combined went three innings
and gave up one hit and two walks. Hansel Izquierdo pitched two innings
and Steve Sawyer pitched the final inning to pick off his second win
of the season.
Offensivly the Cougars had a couple of people hitting well. Jim
Kavourias, Miguel Cabrera and Dennis Anderson all had two hits. Josh
Wilson did a good job with two sacrifice bunts in the last three innings
to move runners along. Chip Ambres also got two hits and two walks
For the Lumberkings Luke Lockwood started and pitched well. He went
into the sixth, giving up six hits, but only one earned run. He walked
three and struck out two. Chris Bye then came in for two and one thirds
innings. He gave up two hits and one run. Gerardo Casadiego then went
two thirds of an inning and gave up two hits and two runs. Including the
game winning home run.
Brett Boyer lead the way for the Lumberkings offensivly with two hits.
The Lumberkings led off the scoring in the top of the first when with
one out Danny Rombley singled to center. Grady Sizemore then walked. After
a double steal and a strike out, Drew McMillon came up and hit one to
left. Leftfielder Josh Willingham could not find the ball and it droped
in there for a hit, meanwhile both Rombley and Sizemore scored.
The Cougars would get on the board in the fifth when with two outs
Miguel Cabrera singled to center, then stole second. Dennis Anderson
then doubled to center to score Cabrera.
Chip Ambres led off the seventh inning with a walk, then stole second
base. Josh Wilson then put down a sacrifice bunt to move Ambres to third.
Adrian Gonzalez then singled to center to score Ambres.
Chip Ambres also led off the ninth, this time he doubled to center.
Josh Wilson then put down another perfect sacrifice bunt to move Ambres
to third. One out later, Jim Kavourias then hit a bomb over the scoreboard
in left to win the game.
