The Cougars had some chances to score runs, but just couldn't get the runners in when they had those chances. The end result is a third straight loss to the Dayton Dragons, this one 7-4.
With one out in the first inning the Dragons would draw first blood. Eric Eymann singled to right center. One out later, Habilito Hernandez singled to right to score Eymann. The Cougars would tie the game in the next half inning. With one out, Nick Blasi tripled down the left field line. Jeff Bieker was then hit by a pitch. Raul Padron would reach on a fielder's choice with Bieker out at second, and Blasi scoring. The inning wouldn't be over. Wes Long singled to center. Justin Sellers would then be hit by a pitch to load the bases with two outs. Frank Martinez then grounded out to second to end the inning.
Josh Holden led off the third with a bunt single to third. Padron picked up the ball just before it wouldve gone foul. Holden then stole on Padron/Josh Gray. He stole on a called pitch out and still made it. Michael Griffin then singled to left. A wild pitch would move Griffin to second. Eymann flew out to right, Holden stayed at third, not testing right fielder Jose Pineda's arm. Jay Bruce then grounded out to second, on the play Holden would score. Hernandez then singled to right to score Griffin. Another wild pitch, this one moved Hernandez to second with two outs. Gray then got Brandon Syzmanski on strikes to get out of trouble.
Kane County answered the Dragons two runs with three of thier own in the next half inning. Bieker led it off with a single to short. One out later, Wes Long walked. Sellers then doubled to left to score both Bieker and Long, he would get to third ont he throw home. One out later, Jeff Baisley would reach on an error by the third baseman, Sellers would score on the play.
The Dragons erupted for four runs in the next half inning to finish off the scoring in the game. With one out, Angel Colon walked. Christopher Denove then singled to right. Josh Holden singled to right also, this time to laod the bases with one out. Griffin then singled to center to score both Colon and Denove. The Cougars then took Gray out and brought in Brad Davis. Davis' first pitch was hit by Eymann downt he left field line for a double to score both Holden and Griffin. Davis then settled down and got the next two hitters to ground out to end the inning.
The Cougar bullpen was again fantastic. Davis allowed two hits. Dan Fyvie was perfect in an inning and two thirds, with two strike outs. Brad Kilby had a little trouble in the ninth. He was able to get the first two outs no problem. Then he walked the next two hitters. Kilby was able to get Griffin on strikes to end the inning.
Kane County had their chances. In the third inning with two outs, Steve Kleen doubled to right center. Nick Blasi then grounded out to end the inning. In the sixth inning with one out. Long walked, he would move up to third on a couple of wild pitches. One out later, Martinez walked. First and third with two outs. Baisley grounds out to end the inning.
