Cougars Come Back In Late Innings and Win Games In 10th, To Sweep Chiefs.
The Cougars have the best record in the league with a 22-8 start to thier season. It is also the first time the Cougars have ever swept the Chiefs at home in a four game series in their history.
Tonights hero for the Cougars was John Suomi. John came up with a single with two outs in the tenth to win the game. The inning started off when John McCurdy blooped one over the left side of the Chiefs defense for a single. Brant Colamarino then put down a perfect bunt back to the pitcher to get McCurdy into scoring postion. John Baker then lined one to right. The rightfield knocked the ball down and it got just past him. That little error let McCurdy get to third. Nelson Cruz poped up to right for the second out. The pop up was just way to shallow to score McCurdy. John Suomi then single up the middle to bring home McCurdy for the win.
Bill Murphy started the game for the Cougars and lasted into the sixth. He gave up three hits and three runs. Murphy's big problem was that he walked six and struck out five. Two of those walks would score.
Murphy did have to get out of trouble early. In the second he gave up a double to left to John Santor. Leftfield Kirk Nordness overan the ball a little which allowed him to get into second a little easier. Terry Evans then popped one up to second for the first out. Reid Gorecki grounded out to second for the second out. Santor went to third on the play. Murphy did get out of trouble with getting Kyle Boyer to pop up foul to first.
Unfortunatly he wouldn't be so lucky in the next inning. With one out, Mike McCoy walked then stole second. Matt Lemanczyk popped up to center. Travis Hanson was hit by a pitch, to put runners on first and second with two outs. Tyler Parker singled to center to allow McCoy to score the first run of the game. On the play Hanson would get to third. Parker then stole second. Murphy lost a little control then and walked John Santor to load the bases. He did a good job after that in striking out Terry Evans to end the inning without further trouble.
Bill Murphy would then get in and out of trouble for the next two innings before he got in over his head in the sixth. In the fourth Murphy would walked Chase Voshell with two outs. Voshell then stole second. Mike McCoy would then strike out to end the inning.
The pressure grew on Murphy and the Cougars in the fifth. Matt Lemanczyk singled to cetner to lead off the inning. Murphy tried to pick him off of first and the throw went down the right field line. Lemanczyk made it all the way around to third on the error. Travis Hanson flied to left for the first out. Tyler Parker walked. Then Murphy refocused and struck out both John Santor and Terry Evans to end the inning.
Meanwhile the Chiefs started Andy Cavazos. He allowed a single to Francis Gomez to lead off the first, then got the next five hitters to ground out to either himself or to third. He ended the second and started the third with fly outs. Kroy Wayment then walked and stole second in the third. After that Gomez struck out. John McCurdy would reach on an error by the shortstop Kyle Boyer. Colarmaino would then ground back to the mound to end the inning.
After that Cavazos got the Cougars in order in the fourth. He allowed a runner on an error, but got a double play. In the sixth he gave up a one out double that got stranded at second.
Murphy would get burned by his and the teams mistakes in the sixth when the Chiefs would get three runs across, two against him. Reid Gorecki leadoff with a homer that went onto the deck in left field. Kyle Boyer then walked, and stole second. The Cougars made a pitching change and brought in Jared Burton. Chase Voshell struck out for the first out. Mike McCoy then struck out for the second out. Matt Lemanczyk singled to left to bring home Boyer. Travis Hanson then brought home Lemanczyk with a double to center. The inning would finally end with a fly out to right.
The Cougars then got one on in the bottom of the inning and stranded him. In the top of the inning the Chiefs would strand a runner on second.
The Cougars would score three runs of thier own in the bottom of the seventh. Nelson Cruz hit a bomb to left for his eighth of the year. John Suomi singled to left. Nick Rogers lined to center. Kirk Nordness then popped out to center for the second out. Kory Wayment singled to right, on the play Suomi would make it to third. Francis Gomez then singled to center to score Suomi. The Chiefs then brought in a new pitcher. It didnt help. John McCurdy singled to center to score Wayments. The inning would end when John Baker flied to cetner.
Jared Burton would then set the Chiefs down in the seventh with three strikeouts, and a single.
The Cougars tied the game in the eight. With one out Nelson Cruz tripled to center. Suomi then hit a sacrifice fly to left to score Cruz.
The game would remain tied untill the tenth when the Cougars eventually won.

Notes-Well let's see where should I start tonight, well here we go, Nelson Cruz who hit his eighth homer of the season is now 12 days ahead of Jason Stokes' pace in which he hit 27 homers last year. He hit two homers on May 16th at Beloit for his seventh and eighth of the season last year.
More Notes-well ok, it's just an error note and I know someone will pass it along to the right person and i'll hear about it tomorrow but here we go. Debbie gets an error, yes that Debbie section 107 row E seat 1. She had a pop up go straight through her hands (she wasn't even holding a beer!!) and had it go off her hands and hit the woman in front of her in either the head or shoulders. Come on Debbie.
