May 4th, 2004
Steve Bondurant was amazing again this time he was perfect for six innings. The gave up a single to the leadoff hitter Luis Bolivar, and would be out of the game after the inning. He had nine strikeouts, the single was the only base runner the Dragons got the entire seven innings.
He has given up two hits in his last 16 innings of work. One of these days he will get his no hitter or perfect game at this rate.
The Cougars bats took care of business today with eight runs. With two outs in the first the Cougars would strike first. David Castillo would reach on an error by the third baseman. Eddie Kim then took the first pitch he saw over the left field fense for his second homer of the season.
One more run for the Cougars in the third with one out. Nick Rogers walked. Castillo singled to left to get Rogers to second. One out later Brian Snyder would single to right to score Rogers. Castillo tried to get to third but would be thrown out to end the inning.
The big scoring inning for the Cougars would be the fourth when they scored three runs. With one out Vasili Spanos walked. One out later, Luke Appert singled to right. Brian Ingram then singled to left to score Spanos. The Dragons then brought in a new pitcher, Derek Hawk. The first pitch he throws would be wild and allow the runners to move up. Nick Rogers would then single to center driving home both Appert and Ingram.
The Cougars would get a leadoff double to right in the seventh by Kim. Brian SNyder flew to right. Dustin Majewski then would ground to second, on the play Kim moved to third. Spanos walked. Luis Perez then flew out to right to end the threat.
With Bondurant pitching that should've been enough offense for the Cougars, they took him out after the seventh inning and things looked to be becoming bleak. Manny Rodriguez came in and couldn't do anything right. Rodriguez walked Walter Olmstead to lead things off on four pitches Jarrod Schmidt then would reach on a fielder's choice, on the play Olmstead would be out at second. Kyle Smith then singled to right. Elvin Beltre who spent last year as a pitcher in the Mets orginization, then took Rodriguez deep to left center for a three run homer. Miguel Perez then would ground out to third. Luis Bolivar grounded out to first to stop the bleeding.
Kane County roared back in the top of the ninth with two runs to answer the Dragons. Kim led off with a walk. Snyder popped out to second for the first out. Majewski then doubled to left, getting Kim to third. Spanos would do it again, this time with a double to right to score both Kim and Majewski. Luis Perez and Luke Appert struck out to end the inning.
It took Daniel Fyvie seven pitches to end the game in the bottom of the inning. He would get Habelito Hernandez on three pitches to strikeout. Joey Votto grounded out to first ont he first pitch. Three more pitches and Ryan Fry was fried to end the game.
