At this rate, the way this team is going the fans will need the Cougars to give away ant-acids or as my dad says tranquilizers. They go up 7-1 and thankfully hold on for a 8-5 win to break a three game losing streak.
The Cougars got their first grand slam of the year, this was Javier Herrera's second homer of the year. Myron Leslie also hit his first homer of the year. The Dragons walked 12 Cougars, six of those walks would score.
Kane County took the lead in the second inning. Raul Padron led off with a walk. Chalon Tietje then grounded one back to the pitcher,Rafael Gonzalez. Gonzalez threw to early to second base to try to get the double play, and the ball would sail into centerfield. Padron went to third and Tietje would end up on second. The very next pitch went wide of the catcher, and brought home Padron.
Two runs for the Cougars in the fourth. With one out Tietje walked. Leslie then hit a homer to left field. The biggest inning for the Cougars was the fifth when they scored four runs. The Dragons had just brough in a new pitcher, Alexander Farfan to replace Gonzalez. Farfan would walk the bases loaded on 15 pitches. Herrera then hit a bomb to left for a grand slam.
After the homer, Padron lined out to short for the first out. Teitje was then hit in the back of the helmet, but would stay in the game. Leslie reached on a fielder's choice, with Tietje out at second. Travis Chapman would double to left to get Leslie to third. The Dragons would bring in another pitcher, and he would walk Gregorio Petit to reload the bases. Nick Blasi flew out to center to end the inning. Three men left on base.
Ryan Ruiz led off the sixth inning with a walk. Kevin Melillo then singled to center, Ruiz would get to third on a wild pitch. One out later, Padron blooped one to center, the center fielder, Kenny Lewis would get to the ball for the out, and then by the time he, threw home Ruiz had already tagged up and scored. Lewis, I guess didnt expect Ruiz to tag up on such a shallow bloop.
Dayton would be on the verge of seemingly tying the game most of the night. Their first run came in the fifth inning on a one out solo homer by Habilito Hernandez. His second in two nights. In the sixth inning, Cougars starter Ryan Webb struck out the first two he faced. Phil Gentry the singled to right. Paul Janish would then homer down the left field line to bring the Dragons within five runs.
Webb came out after six innings, and Keith Perez was called upon. Craig Kroski led off the seventh with a single to right. Hernandez then singled to center. Drew Anderson singled to center to bring home Kroski to bring them within four runs. The Cougars brought in Connor Robertson to pitch with runners on first and third and nobody out. Robertson struck out, Cody Strait. Lewis would bloop a double down the left field line to score Hernandez to get the deficet down to three runs. Robertson then hit Gentry to load the bases with two outs and a three run lead. Janish would see four pitches and head back to the dugout after striking out to end the inning.
Dayton threatend in the eighth. With one out, Kroski doubled to right. Hernandez would pop out to center. Anderson then popped out to third to end the inning.
The Cougars on the other hand, had a couple of more chances to score some runs and just couldnt get that hit that they needed. In the first, third and eighth a two out walk would be wasted by a strikeout. In the seventh a two out walk would be wasted by a caught stealing. In the ninth, Raul Padron led off with a double to right. He would get to third on a wild pitch. Tietje grounded one to second, but Padron wasnt able to score. One out and a man on third, Leslie and Chapman both would see four pitches, and end up with strikeouts.
Ryan Webb pitched very well, getting his first win as a starter and his second win of the year. He went six innings, giving up four hits and three runs. He didnt walk anyone and struck out seven. He went to a three ball count only three times in six innings. Ryan retired the first six he faced.
Connor Robertson did a good job of getting out of trouble in the seventh with only givign up the two runs, by getting the two strikeouts. Scott Drucker pitched the ninth and got his sixth save of the year.
