Taking advantage of chanced givin to them the Cougars would win their second game in a row against Dayton, this time 4-3. Half of the runs the Cougars got would get on because of walks. They should've won the game by more, but a couple of base running errors took them out of great opportunities.
Ryan Ford kept them in the game today, he didnt have his best outing of the year, but he was good enough to keep the game close. He went six innings, giving up four hits and three runs. Ryan struck out four, and walked four. He also hit two batters.
Kane County got out to a two run led in the second inning. Chalon Tietje led off the inning with a single to second. Chris Tritle and Myron Leslie saw four pitches each and headed back to the bench for the first two outs with strikeouts. With Kory Wayment up, Tietje would steal second. Wayment walked to put runners on first and second with two outs. Travis Chapman would then find the gap in right for a double to score both Tietje and Wayment.
Dayton came back for a run of their own in the third. Both Kenny Lewis and Cody Strait would get hit by pitches. Phil Gentry then put down a bunt to move them over into scoring position. Paul Janish grounded out to short, on the play Lewis would score, and Strait stayed at second. Habilito Hernandez then struck out to end the inning.
The Dragons crept closer in the fourth with another run. Craig Tatum led off with a single to center. Tonys Gutierrez then walked. Drew Anderson would fly to right, Tatum tagged up an moved to third. Evan Conley would then hit a sacrifice fly to center to score Tatum. Lewis grounded out to end the inning.
Dayton tied the game with another run, this time in the fifth inning.Strait led off with a bunt single back to the mound. Phil Gentry would reach on a fielder's choice, with Strait being out at second. Gentry would then steal second. Janish grounded out to third, Gentry moved up to third on the play. Hernandez singled to left to score Gentry. Hernandez would be out trying to advance to second on the throw home to end the inning.
The Cougars would score would be the sixth inning, but they could've or maybe I should say should've had more than just one run. Herrera led off with a walk. Everidge hit a slow roller to third, that just wouldn't go foul, for an infield single. First and second with nobody out. Chalon Tietje then singled to left to score Herrera. On the play Tietje got lost, and for some reason went toward second, and would get in a rundown and tagged out, while Everidge would be on second. One out later, Leslie singled to center, Everidge would run through Cougar Manager Dave Joppie's stop sign, and try to score, he would be thrown out, no problem to end the inning. Joppie next time just tackle him.
With the score tied at third both teams would have had chances in the first five innings that they couldnt take advantage of. In the first for Dayton with one out, Janish walked. Hernandez then reached on a fielder's choice with Janish out at second. Tatum would have the same fate, this time to end the inning.
In the second inning the Dragons had Gutierrez led off with a single to right. One out later, Evan Conley would ground into an inning ending double play.
The Cougars had two great chances get away from them in the early innings. In the first with two outs, Javier Herrera doubled down the right field line, he would get to third on a wild pitch. Tommy Everidge then flew out to right to end the inning.
In the fourth inning, with one out, Chris Tritle walked, then stole second. Myron Lesle grounded out to first, Tritle would move to third. Again a man on third with two outs. Kory Wayment grounded to short to end the inning.
Travis Chapman led off the fifth inning with a walk. Ryan Ruiz would be caught looking for the first out. Kevin Melillo then struck out for the second out. On the strike out of Melillo, Chapman was running with a full count, and it would be a strike em out thrown em out double play to end the inning. A lead off walk wasted.
Kane County scored another run in the seventh that would become the winning run. With one out, Chapman singled to center. Ruiz would walk, after that the Dragons brought in another pitcher. Melillo greeted him with a single to right to bring home Chapman. Men on first and third with one out, the Cougars still could build a cushion. Herrera would strike out. Everidge then flew to right to end the inning.
Clay Tichota came in for the seventh and had to get out of some trouble. With one out, Gentry singled to right. Janish then reached on a fielder's choice, with Gentry being out at second. Hernandez would then walk. First and second with two outs and a one run lead. Tichota struck out Craig Tatum looking to get out of it.
With one out in the eighth, Tritle walked. Leslie then followed with a double to center, the center fielder basically just mis judged a liner. Second and third with one out, up by one. Kory Wayment would strike out after being ahead in the count 2-0. Chapman then saw four pitches and went back to the bench to end the inning. Two more left stranded in scoring position.
Scott Drucker came on to get the save in the ninth. Lewis led off with a bunt single back to the mound. Strait would lay down the sacrifice bunt to move him to second. Drucker then got Gentry on four pitches. Janish would then ground out to third to end the game.
Travis Chapman had two hits and was on base three out of the four times he came to the plate. James Heuser did a nice job of getting the one batter he was asked to get in the eighth. Robert Semerano got the other two in the eighth with no problem.

The Cougars did make a roster move today. Gregorio Petit went on the disabled list with a problem with a finger. Wes Long came off of the disabled list to take his spot.
Tomorrow's starters
Sean Gallagher (2-1, 0.00) vs Michael Rogers (0-2, 6.56)
Gallagher has allowed an earned run all year, and these two faced each other last week in Peoria and it was a good matchup.
