Wow!, down 7-3 going into the top of the ninth, and you lose the game 10-7, thats hard to take. No clipboards were broken, maybe a little harmed, but not broken. The Cougars just plain and simple blew the game, with their bullpen, just not being able to get anyone out when they needed to.
All of this in the ninth, belive it or not was with two outs, thats really hard to take. Drew Larsen started it all off with a single to left off of reliever Clay Tichota. Luis Montanez followed that off with a double to left. Josh Arteaga singled to left to bring home Larsen and cut the lead down to three. Mike Mallory then singled to center to bring home Montanez, and the merri-go-round had started. After that the Cougars would bring in their closer Scott Drucker to hopefully be able to pull off a win. Drucker would hit Bo Flowers to load the bases. Alberto Garcia then singled up the middle to drive home both Arteaga and Mallory and bring the Chiefs within one run.
Oscar Bernard doubled to center to score both Flowers and Garcia to give the Chiefs a one run lead. Aaron Smith, who made the first out of the inning, remember all of this happend with two outs, Smith walked. Alfred Joseph would then reach on an error by Kevin Melillo to load the bases. Cougar manager Dave Joppie then brought in Keith Perez to hopefully keep the game close. Perez was greated by Larsen, who singled to right to score Bernard for the seventh run of the inning. Montanez would hit into a force play at second to finally end the torture.
The Chiefs started the scoring off in the first inning with two runs. With one out, Montanez hit a double off of the top of the left field wall. Arteaga then singled to left. Mallory singled to center to score Montanez. One out later, Garcia singled to center to score Arteaga, Mallory would be out trying for third to end the inning.
Kane County came back in the bottom of the inning to cut the lead in half with a run of their own. With one out, Melillo reached on a bunt single to second. Javier Herrera then doubled to right. Eddie Kim would ground out to short, on the play Melillo scored. The inning would end on a Chalon Tietje ground out.
With one out in the second inning, Myron Leslieflew one to center, the centerfielder tried to catch it and fell down and dropped it. They would give him a triple on the play. Chris Tritle singled to left to score Leslie. Kory Wayment walked. Nick Blasi would reach on a fielder's choice, with Tritle being out at third. Melillo grounded out to end the inning.
Javier Herrera led off the third inning with a single to right, the right fielder bobbled the ball and Herrera made it to second. One out later, Chalon Tietje singled to right to score Herrera. Tietje went to second on the throw home. Raul Padron then flew out to center. The centerfielder, caught the ball, but the droped it, Padron was called out. Myron Leslie grounded out to end the inning.
With one out in the fourth inning, Kory Wayment walked. Nick Blasi then doubled to right. Kevin Melillo walked to load the bases. Herrera then hit a sacrifice fly to center to score Wayment. Eddie Kim was caught looking to end the inning.
Peoria scored a run in the sixth with one out, Alberto Garcia doubled to center. Oscar Bernard then singled up the middle to bring home Garcia. The Cougars scored three times in the next half inning. Kory Wayment led things off with a single to left. Nick Blasi then walked. Kevin Melillo singled to right to load the bases. Herrera would reach on a error by the third baseman, on the play Wayment scored and the bases remained loaded. Eddie Kim would reach on a fielder's choice, with Herrera being out at second and Blasi scoring. Chalon Tietje was then hit by a pitch to reload the bases. All of the runners would move up a base on a wild pitch, with Mellio scoring. That would bring the game to a Cougars 7, Chiefs 3
Both teams had several chances to score some more runs. In the third inning the Chiefs got a one out double by Luis Montantez. Josh Arteaga then poped up foul to the catcher. Mike Mallory would strike out. In the fourth inning, Bo Flowers led off with a single to third. Alberto Garcia then walked. Bernard would hit into a double pla. In the fifth inning with one out, Drew Larsen doubled to left then stole third. Montanez then walked. First and third with one out. Arteaga would strike out. Mallory then lined out to right to strand the runners.
In the seventh, Larsen led off with a double to right. Montanez then flew out to right. Arteaga then popped up to second. Mallory would strike out to end the inning.
