COUGARS WIN CLOSE GAME
The Cougars won their 15th game of the season, to tie them for first place in the divison.
Marc Sauer pitched the first seven innings, with him giving up eight hits on five runs, and five strikeouts. The good thing is that he did not walk anybody.
Hector Henriquez then pitched an inning and did not pitch that well to put it lightly. Bryan Moore then pitched the ninth inning to get the save for his sixth of the season
offensivley it was the Dennis Anderson show, with him going 4-4 with thwo doubles and two runs batted in. Matt Padgett also had a good day going officily going 1-1 with two walks and one hit by pitch.
For the Wizards first round draft pick Omar Ortiz started the game, going the first five innings, and giving up five hits, runs and walks. while striking out six. Andy Prater then came in and pitched one and one thids innings giving up 2 hits and runs. while walking one.
Douglas Young came in for the final inning and two thirds. He gave up two hits, one run, and one walk.
The scoring started in the first for the Wizards when with one out Brian Ward doubled to center. One out later John Scheschuck hit a twp run homer that hit inside the rightfield deck and bounced back onto the outfield grass.
The Cougars would answer in the bottom of the inning when Kevin Hooper lead the inning off with a walk. Francisco Ferrand then tripled to right to score Hooper. Scott Goodman grounded ut to second to allow Ferrand to score.
More from the Cougars in the second when Matt Frick lead the inning off with a walk. Dennis Anderson then doubled to left to score Frick.
The third inning would see more runs from the Wizards when Vince Faison singled to right and stole second. Brian Ward then singled to right. After a fielder's choice which got Faison to third. John Scheschuck then singled to left to score Faison.
Fort Wayne would score more in the fifth when with one out Vince Faison hit a homerun that hit the scoreboard. One out later Troy Schrader hit a homerun over the entire scoreboard, the Torco sign on top also.
The Cougars would score some runs of their own in the bottom of the fifth when Scott Goodman singled to center, then was caught at second trying to steal the base. Matt Padgett then walks. One out later Dave Callahn hit a two run homerun over the right field deck.
In the seventh the Cougars scored some more runs when with one out Matt Padgett singled to right. Kelley Washington walked. Then the Wizards made a pitching change. Dave Callahan walked. Matt Frick then hit a sacrifice fly to left to score Padgett. Dennis Anderson then singled to left to score Washington. Luis Ugueto doubled to left to score Callahan, ont he play Anderson tried to score but was thrown at home plate to end the inning.
The Wizards would get one more in the eighth when Brian Ward doubled to center. Troy Schrader then reached on a Kelley Washington error when he got to the ball but bobbled the ball and threw the ball past Callahan at first to allow Ward to score from first.
