One error was all the Cedar Rapid Kernels made Tuesday night against the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers. It was one error too many.

J.R. Warner's first inning error led to three unearned Wisconsin runs and the Timber Rattlers belted three solo home runs, two by former Cedar Rapids batboy Joe Dusam, en rout to a 7-3 win over the Kernels.

The loss the Kernels' sixth straight and 12th in their last 14 games. It dropped their record to 13-16.

Wisconsin won it's second game in as many nights against the Kernels and is 18-13.

The game was delayed 58 minutes by a power failute with two outs in the Kernels' seventh inning. Apparently, mylar ballons became entangled in a power line on 15th st SW and knocked out power to the area.

When play resumed, the Kernels trailed 6-3. and had Tommy Murphy at the plate with a 2-1 count and runners at first and second base.

Two pitches later, Murphy struck out and the Kernels' hopes went with him.

Wisconsin reliever Chad Wiles, who came on and fanned Murphy, retired the final seven Kernels he face to earn his sixth save in 12 appearances.

Dusan, whose father Gene Dusan managed the Cedar Rapids Red in 1986, belted his first and second home runs of the season. His one out blast in the second inning boosted Wisconsin's led to 4-1 and his leadoff home run in the ninth inning, off the right field foul pole ended the scoring.

"I've been struggling, but that's because I haven't been hitting the pitches I should hit." said Dusan, a fourth year pro with his thrid oragnization. He was drafted by the Padres in 1998 and traded to the Blue Jays before last season. He signed with the Mariners before this season.

Dusan who was 9 when his father managed in Cedar Rapids, was batting .194 before Tuesday's game.

"Tonight I hit the pitches I should hit." he said. "I've been off to a slow start before, so I know there's a lot of season left. I'm not pressing. Maybe I should be, but i'm not."

The opposite is true of the Kernels, Manager Tyrone Boykin said. "We have guys that are trying to do everything they can to win games in one at bat, pressing a little bit and trying to make it happen all at once," Boykin said.
