Two days ago we gave the Chiefs the win. Yesterday the Chiefs gave us a win. Today we took the earned it. The Cougars got a split of the four game series from the Peoria Chiefs with a 5-2 win.

The first five innings were basically a pitchers duel, after that the Cougars got four runs int he sixth and added another in the seventh. Then they held on in the ninth.

Ryan Webb made his longest outing of the year and pitched well. He gave up seven hits and one run, but got out of some jams nicely.

In the first inning with one out Albert Garcia hit a single up the middle. One out later, Luis Montenez did the same thing, Garcia went to third. Webb then would get Bo Flowers on strikes to get out of the inning.

The Chiefs would score thier run against Webb in the second inning. With one out, Alan Rick blooped a single to left. Jose Rios then singled to right. Alfred Joseph was then hit by a pitch which loaded the bases. Drew Larsen would line one to left. Leftfielder Chalon Tietje made a great diving catch. If it had gotten past him it might of cleared the bases. As it went, the play turned out to be a sacrifice fly, as Rick would score.

Webb then cruized through the third, before giving up a leadoff single in the fourth. A double play would get him out of trouble. In the sixth inning, he gave up a one out double to Montanez. A pop out and a ground out would get him out of that inning.

The Cougars on the other hand, had one hit through three innings. Lee Gwaltney started for the Chiefs and pitched ok. He went into the sixth inning, giving up seven hits and four runs. He walked no one and struck out nine.

The first real, anything off of Gwaltney wa a solo bomb to left field by Myron Leslie for his second homer on the year.

The next inning the Cougars would get hitting. Nick Blasi led off with a single to center. Ryan Ruiz then doubled to center to score Blasi. Kevin Melillo then singled down the line to right to score Ruiz. Tommy Everidge would ground out to third for the first out. Eddie Kim doubled to center to score Melillo. The Chiefs then brought in some relief. Leslie singled to left to great the new pitcher. Tietje would hit into an inning ending double play.

With one out in the seventh inning Travis Chapman doubled to deep center. Blasi grounded out to second, on the play Chapman moved to third. A wild pitch would bring home Chapman. Ruiz and Melillo then walked. The Chiefs brought in another reliever to pitch to Everidge. Tommy would get caught watching to end the inning.

In the bottom of the eighth the Cougars should've had another run. Kim led off with a double to center. Leslie popped up to second for the first out. Tietje then popped out to right. Tritle would ground out to short to end the inning.

Robert Semerano did a nice job in relief of Webb. He went two inning, giving up two hits and a run. He came into the game in the seventh with Jose Rios at first and one out. Semerano then got two fly out to right to end the inning.

In the eighth inning, Alberto Garcia led off with a single to center. Semerano then struck out Josh Arteaga and Luis Montanez. Bo Flowers would then fly out to right to end the inning.

Aaron Smith led off the ninth against Semerano with a double to left. A wild pitch moved him on to third. Rick then grounded out to second, on the play Smith would score. Rios then grounded one to first. Kim made a nice grab of the ball but couldn't get the ball out of the mitt, with out droping it for an error. 5-2 with one out in the ninth, the Cougars would bring in their closer Scott Drucker. Drucker got Joseph to lfy to center. Larsen then reached on a fielder's choice, with Rios being out at second to end the game.
