The Cougars pitchers couldn't solve the mystery of the South Bend Silverhawks bats, as the Cougars would give up 14 runs and 16 hits, and not look good doing any of it.
The Cougars pitchers just couldnt stop getting hit really hard, no balls left the park but plenty hit the fense and would be run scoring doubles.
Kane County offensivley was no where to be found as there bats were useless against South Bend pitching. They scored all of one run on five hits.
Ross Ohlendorf started for the Hawks and pitched well for his six innings. He gave up all five hits and the one runs. Ohlendorf struck out nine Cougars, eight in the first four innings.
The Cougars offense had a couple of bright spots, but not many. In the first the frustration started as Ryan Ruiz singled to center with one out, then stole second. A fly out and a ground out would end the inning. In the third inning, Nick Blasi singled to left with two outs. Ruiz then followed with a single to center. First and second with two outs for the Cougars. Kevin Melillo then flew out to left to end the frame.
A lead off walk to Eddie Kim started things for the Cougars in the fourth. Myron Leslie then struck out. Raul Padron would then walk. Again runners on first and second, but this time with only one out. Chalon Tietje would be caught looking for the second out. Chris Tritle then struck out to end the inning.
In the sixth the Cougars would scratch across a run, they would only be down at that point 7-1. Kim led off with a double down the line in left. Leslie then followed with a single to right to score Kim. Padron lined out to first for the first out. Tietje then grounded into the inning ending double play.
The rest of the way no Cougar would get on base, and only one would hit the ball out of the infield.
Now for the slaughter, or the Silverhawks offense. In the first inning Emilio Bonafacio led off with a single to center, he then preceded to steal both second and third base. One out later, Augie Murrilo walked. Javier Brito would ground out to third, with Bonafacio scoring the games first run. Carlos Gonzales then singled to center to score Murrilo.
Another run for the Hawks in the second inning. Orlando Mercado led off the inning with a walk. Travis Gulick tripled to center to score Mercado. Cougar starter Ryan Ford, then got Alberto Gonzalez to fly out to center. Bonafacio would strike out and Jereme Milons then lined out to second to end the inning while stranding Gulick at third.
Three runs for the Hawks in the third inning. Murrilo led it off with a walk. Brito then singled to right. Gonzalez would double to right to score Murrilo, with Brito getting to third. The throw from right fielder Chris Tritle would go over second base and into left field where the left fielder Chalon Tietje had to field the ball, no one advanced on the throw. Allen Mottram then grounded out to third, on the play Brito would score. One out later, Gulick doubled to center to score Gonzales.
The runs just kept on coming for South Bend as they would score another one in the fourth inning. With one out, Milons blooped one down the right field line and hustled it into a double. Murrilo then singled to right to score Milons. Keith Perez who came in at the begining of the inning then got Brito on an inning ending double play. In the fifth inning another inning ending double play thrown by Perez would erase Mottram from the bases, after he got on by reaching on an error.
The roof fell in on the Cougars in the sixth inning as the Hawks scored seven runs and sent 13 to the plate against two Cougar pitchers. Clay Tichota came in to start the inning. Gulick led off by with a single to center. Gonzalez then tripled to center to score Gulick. Bonafacio doubled down the left field line to score Gonzalez. Milons hit one off of the left field wall for a double to score Bonafacio. Murrilo flew out to right for the first out, on the play Milons tagged up and went to third. Brito would double to left to score Milons. Gonzalez rolled one down to third, the ball got stuck in the thick grass and he beat it out for a single. Mottram followed with a double off the left field wall to drive home both Brito and Gonzalez. The Cougars finally made a pitching change after Tichota was only able to get one out. Connor Robertson then came on. Mercado greeted him by beating out a grounder to first for a hit. Both runners advanced on a Robertson wild pitch with Mottram scoring.
Robertson would then get Gulick out on strikes for the second out of the inning. Gonzalez should've been the third out, but a strike out, wild pitch/passed ball let him get to first. Bonafacio would then walk. Milons finally struck out which thankfully ended the torture.
In the seventh inning Robertson got a double play to erase a led off single. In the ninth Scott Drucker got three ground balls and was out of the inning on only five pitches.
Since tommorrows game is a 10:30 in the morning game, the bus driver Richard should send the team to bed without dinner or anything after how they played tonight.

From what the attendence said it was around 1500 people, I was there and if there were more the 400 it would shock me.
