I guess the Cougars like games starting at 10:30 in the morning, because they won the game 8-4 against South Bend.
Michael Rogers started and went the first five innings, he really only had two bad innings. Those are when the Hawks scored three of their four runs in the game.
The offense started to come alive a little, with nine hits and eight runs. It was the nine walks, with two of them scoring that helped. Two of the runs were bases loaded walks.
With two outs in the first inning the Cougars would score the first run of the game. Kevin Melillo walked. Javier Herrera would walk. Tommy Everidge then walked which would load the bases. Silver Hawk starter Angel Rocha then walked Chalon Tietje to bring home Melillo. Wes Long then popped up to second to end the inning.
Another run for the Cougars in the second inning. Kory Wayment led off with a single to right. Travis Chapman walked. Nick Blasi would then ground out to second, on the play both runners would advance a base. Ryan Ruiz flew out to center, on the play Wayment would tag up and score on the sacrifce.
The Cougars exploded for four runs in the third inning to make it a six run lead. Herrera would led off and reach on a throwing error by the third baseman. Tommy Everidge then tripled to center to bring home Herrera. A bad bounce on the throw from center would get past the catcher to allow Everidge to score. Tietje then singled to center and would get to second on a balk. One out later, Wayment would hit his first home of the season. This one to left field.
The Hawks would score twice in the bottom of the inning. With two outs, Wilken Castillo singled to right. Augie Murrilo then took Rogers deep for the two run homer.
Brandon Simon led off the fourth inning for South Bend with a single to left, then stole second. One out later, Castillo singled to left to score Simon. Rogers would get out of the inning with a double play.
Travis Gulick led off the seventh by reaching on an error by Wayment, he would get to second on the throwing error. Alberto Gonzalez then grounded out to third. Simon singled to center to score Gulick.
Kane County added two more runs in the ninth to pull away to the four run win. Ryan Ruiz led off by drawing a walk. Melillo then singled to second. Herrera would walk which loaded the bases. Everidge then walked to bring home Ruiz. The Hawks then made a pitching change and Tietje then would walk to force in Melillo.
The Cougars could've scored arun in the fourth inning. Ruiz led off with a single to left. Melillo then followed with a single to center. Herrera grounded out to third, moving both runners up a base. Everidge flew out to center, Ruiz tagged up an tried to score. Centerfielder Simon threw him out at home to end the inning.
