Kane County at Beloit
May 12th, 2007
The Cougars held the lead for three and a half innings in tonights game, the only problem was that is was only the first three and a half.Beloit would score five runs in the fourth to take the lead, and hold on to give the Cougars another loss.
Kane County did score three runs in the first inning, with the help of some walks. With one out, Jermaine Mitchell singled to short, a wild pitch then moved him to second. Jake Smith walked, along with Alex Valdez, which would load the bases. Greg Dowling then singled to left to score Mitchell. Mike Affronti then walked to allow Smith to score. Todd Johnson would single to left to score Valdez. Gustavo Rosendo then hit into the old inning ending double play.
In the bottom of the inning the Snappers would score one run off of Cougar starter John Herrera. Brian Dinkleman led off with a double to right. Steve Singleton then reached on an error by first baseman Dowling. Garrett Olson then singled down the right field line to score Dinkleman. Herrera was then able to strike out Johnny Woodard. Plus he got Danny Valencia and Chris Parmelee to pop out to end the inning.
Amazingly enough the Cougars weren't done scoring in this game, at least not yet. They scored two more runs in the second inning. Mike Massaro led off with a single to second, then stole second. One out later, Mitchell singled to center to score Massaro, Mitchell went to second on the throw to the plate. Jake Smith singled to center to score Mitchell.
The rest of the way the Cougars would get seven hits and get one runner past second, but nobody home.
Things fell apart for the Cougars all in one big inning. In the fourth inning the Snappers scored five runs. With one out Valencia singled to short. Parmelee walked, and Joe Benson then singled to third to load the bases. Greg Yersich walked to allow Valencia to score. One out later, Dinkleman tripled to right center to clear the bases of Snappers. Steve Singleton then singled to left to score Dinkleman.
John Herrera didnt pitch that badly, he just was left in there to take the runs, and get through as much as possible. He went six innings, and really besides those two innings that the Snappers scored, he pitched well. In the second inning he gave up a leadoff single, then got a double play. In the third and the fifth he got double plays to erase runners. Henry Rodriguez came in for the seventh and pitch well, he gave up one walk, but then picked the guy off.
The Cougars did have some other scoring chances in the game. In the third inning, Affronti led off with a single to center. Then three straight groundouts and the Cougars are out of the inning. In the fourth Larry Cobb singled to lead things off, then he was picked off. Mitchell then walks, and he is picked off. The fifth inning with one out Dowling walks, and nothing. In the sixth inning Rosendo leads things off with a single to right. Massaro then reaches on a bunt single. One out later, Mitchell and Smith both hit into fielder's choices to end the inning. In the seventh Affronti walks, and Johnson reached on an error and got nowhere. In the eighth inning with one Massaro singled to left. One out later, Mitchell singled to right. Smith is then caught looking to end the inning. Dowling singles in the ninth with one out, Affronti then hits into the game ending double play.

The kid who played the anthem on the guitar was good.
