COUGARS WIN IN 14TH

The Cougars took 14 innings to pull out a victory against the Clinton Lumberkings. The game went just about four hours in on a cold and very windy spring day. Each team had it's oportunities to score in extra innings, but the pitchers with a lot of help from their respective deffensives were able to get out of the jam.

Both starting pitchers pitched great games John Koronka for the Lumberkings and Todd Moser for the Cougars. Moser pitched eight solid innings, giving up ten hits and four runs, but the best part of it was no walked, plus he was able to strikeout nine. Koronka pitched seven innings giving up six hits, four runs, two earned, four walks and two strikeouts.

The bullpen for the Cougars was great, I mean the fact that they were able to hold Clinton to just six hits through six innings of work. Plus the fact that many were tired because of the beating they took from the Snappers yesterday ago. Kevin Gordon was first out since he did not pitch in the game against the Snappers. Kevin pitched one and one thirds innings but had to be removed because he felt something wierd in his shoulder. Bryan Moore then came on for the next one and two thirds innings, giving up three hits while striking out two. Joe Sergent then was called upon to pitch the next two innings giving up only one hits and one walk. The starter for yesterdays game was then summond to the mound. Hector Henriquez who had only lasted one and one thirds innings in the start yesterday pitched the final inning, giving up only one hit while striking out one for the win.

For Clinton Ryan Schurman came out of the bullpen and pitched five innings giving up only one hit, while walking four and striking out six Cougars. Mike Neu then came in and pitched the next two innings giving up two hits, one runs, four walks, and one strikeout.

Offensivley for the Cougars, Dave Callahan had three hits, Stephen Morales had two hits.

The scoring started in the first for the Cougars when with one out Kevin Hooper tripled to right. Hooper then would score on an error by the shortstop.

One more from the Cougars in the second when Dave Callahan doubled to center. One out later Francisco Ferrand hit a sacrifice fly to center to score Callahan from third.

Clinton would tie the game in the third when with one out Robbie Kison singled to right. Then Mark Burnett hit a home run that was only a home run because of the heavy wind blowing out to right field.

The Lumberkings would add two more in the fifth when Bobby Cripps lead it off with a home run that went over the deck in right field. Matt Dehner then doubled to center. Robbie Kison then singled to center to score Dehenr.

The Cougars would tie the game in the seventh when Kelley Washington lead it off with a walk. Francisco Ferrand then singled to right. Stephen Morales then singled to right to score Washington. Morales was lifted for a pitch runner David Paulino. Luis Ugueto then got on from an error by the catcher, which allowed Ferrand to score.

The game would remain tied untill the bottom of the 14th when Chip Ambres lead it off with a walk. Kevin Hooper then bunted him over to second. This was a perfect bunt. Scott Goodman was then intentionally walked. Matt Frick then walked. Chip Ambres would score on a wild pitch to finally end the game.
