The Cougars had a power outage in both runs scored and literally. Kane County didnt score any runs untill the bottom of the ninth when they only cut the Whitecaps lead in half.
The Whitecaps had the best pitcher in the league going against the Cougars. Jon Connolly had an era going in at 0.96. He pitched six shutout inning, giving up six hits. He walked one and struck out one.
The Cougars bullpen did a nice job. Jared Burton threw an inning and two third of one hit ball. Brigmer Leon pitched the final two innings, giving up only one hit and two walks.
Offesnively the Cougars were puzzled. They got a man to third base in both the third and the fifth. Somehow they found a way not to score him. In the third, With two outs John McCurdy singled to left. John Baker the singled to left. Nelson Cruz would then walk to load the bases. Jason Basil had a rough day. He owuld strand seven men on base through the game. In this case he reached on a fielder's choice, on the play Cruz would be out at second to end the inning.
In the fifth inning with one out, John McCurdy would reach on an error by the second baseman. Juan Francia just plain old missed the pop up. Baker then flied to left. Nelson Cruz doubled to left to get McCurdy to third with two outs. Jason Basil then lined out to center to end the inning.
Meanwhile the Whtiecaps were pasting Cougars starter Joe Blanton. Blanton geot the Caps in order in the first, but ran into trouble in the second. Jody Roughton singled to center to lead things off. Victor Mendez singled to left. Brent Clevlen grounded to first which moved the runners up to second and third with only one out. Mike Rabelo then singled to left to load the bases. Chris Maples lined one to right, on the play Roughton tagged up at third and would score the first run of the game. On the play Mendez would also tag up and make it to third. Rabelo then stole second base. Jason Knoedler would reach on an error by third baseman Jason Basil. Basil's throw went over Colamarino at first. On the play Mendez and Rabelo would score to make the score three to nothing. Knoedler would get to second on the error. Juan Francia would ground out to end the inning.
The next time that Blanton would get into trouble and let some runs in was the fifth. With one out Francia walked. Juan Gonzalez then singled to center. Scott Moore would reach on an error by first baseman Brant Colamarino. On the play the ball went through his legs. He ran back to get the bal, meanwhile Francia scored. Colamarino threw home and threw the ball over the catchers head which allowed Gonzalez to score to make it five to nothing Whitecaps. Blanton did a nice job after that mess. He struck out both Roughton and Mendez to end the inning.
In the sixth the Caps would score their final run. With two outs, Mapels walked. Jason Knoedler then singled to center. Francia grounded one just past Blanton for an infield single, on the play Mapels would score. After that Blanton was taken out and Jared Burton was brought in to get the final out of the inning. He got Juan Gonzalez to ground out to first.
The game would remain that way untill the ninth inning when both teams would put runners on. In the top of the inning the Caps got a leadoff walked by Gonzalez. Scott Moore grounded out to third to move him to second. Roughton then lined to left. Mendz walked. Brent Clevlen then struck out to end the inning.
The Cougars would come back in the bottom of the ninth and make it a little more interesting. With one out, Brian Stavisky walked, he would get to second on a wild pitch. Marcus McBeth then singled to center to drive home Stavisky for the Cougars first run of the game. Francis Gomez then singled to left. John McCurdy singled to right to load the bases with only one out. The Caps then brought in a new pitcher to face the Cougars, John Baker. Baker would strike out for the second out of the inning. Nelson Cruz singled to center to allow both McBeth and Gomez to score. Jason Basil would strikeout to end the game.

31 minute power outage

Notes-We'll the Cougars mustve blown the circut bracker or something, we had two seperate power outages which ment that the game was delayed by 31 minutes. The one in the sixth innnig with the Cougars up to bat was 18 minutes long. The one in the seventh inning with the Caps up to bat was only 13 minutes long. Plus the scoreboard in left center was working all game. It supposedly got hit by lightning. That is not to say that it works all the time anyway or at least portions of it dont.
Notes-John Baker and Jeff Muessig were the Oakland A's minor league players of the month for April.
