Clinton Lumberkings at Kane County Cougars
May 15th, 2000
Phillip B. Elfstrom Stadium, Geneva, Illinios
COUGARS WIN ON FRICK GRAND SLAM!!!
The Cougars win on a eighth inning grand slam for catcher Matt
Frick to put the Cougars ahead for good. All of the runs scored
in tonights game were by the long ball, which is something unusual
so far in the season.
Jose Valdez started for the Lumberkings and pitched a good game.
Only making one mistake to Matt Padgett who took him deep in the
first inning. After that he retired the next 12 hitters for the
Cougars.
Jorge Cordova pitched seven innings giving up only four hits. He
gave up one long ball which acounted for all of the runs that Clinton
got in the game. Joe Sergent came in for an inning and gave up one
hits, but struck out one.
Offensivley for the Cougars besides the two blasts. Matt Padgett
had two hits. The impressive thing offesnivley is how Cougars
second baseman Kevin Hooper hits in the leadoff or second position
he worked the count and realy helped the Cougars, not just tonight
but throughout the season.
The scoring started in the first inning for the Cougars when Kevin
Hooper worked the count and got a single to center. One out later Scott
Goodman singled to center. Then Matt Padgett lifted a ball onto the
deck in right, for a three run blast.
The Lumberkings would answer in the fifth when with one out Samone
Peters hit a homer to center.
Then more for the Lumberkings the next inning when with one out
Mark Burnett walked and Andrew Beattie hit a homer onto the bleachers
in right centerfield.
THe fireworks started for the Cougars in the eighth when Francisco
Ferrand walked

Notes-Kelley Washington has made some incredible deffensive grabs on pop
up this series and I forgot to mention it so here it is.
Beware tomorrow is another one of those kids days with probly 3000 kids
at the ball park, so it will not be fun.
