The Cougars put together one huge inning then coasted to the win against the Chiefs. In that one inning they scored nine runs.
All of this offense came against the Chiefs Chad Petty. Petty pitched for West Michigan in 2001. Brian Ingram led things off with a single to center. Luis Perez grounded one to the pitcher, Petty tried tostart the double play but he threw the ball into center field. David Castillo would then walk to load the bases. Vasili Spanos singled to left to score Ingram. Brian Snyder then singled to center to score Perez. Dustin Majewski continied the merry-go-round with a walk, which allowed Castillo to score. David Harriman then took the third pitch he saw over the left center field fense for a grand slam. Luke Appert would then follow with a walk. Nick Rogers then singled to left. After that the Chiefs made a pitching change to bring in Josh Brey. Ingram would pop up to left for the first out. Perez singled to left to score Appert. Castillo then hit into an inning ending double play.
Steve Bondurant started for the Cougars and pitched ok. He went six innings, giving up seven hits and three runs. The Chiefs would score one of the runs in the second inning. Darin Bartont he Cardinals first round pick from last year, he led off the inning with a single to right. One out later Tyler Parker would single to left to score Barton. In the third inning the Chiefs scored another of their runs against Bondurant. Anthony Monegan singled to third. Brenden Ryan then reached on a fielder's choice with Monegan being out at second. A wild pitch would move Ryan to second. One out later Terry Evans then singled to left to score Ryan.
The other run the Cougars would score would come in the third inning. With two outs, Ingram doubled to right. Perez then grounded one down the right field line for a run scoring single. Castillo then singled to left. Spanos would walk, which would load the bases. Snyder poped out to second to end the inning.
With one out in the fifth Monegan singled to left. Ryan would single to center to get Monegan to third. Haerther grounded out to first to score Monegan.
The Cougars would get one more chance to score some runs, in the sixth inning. Spanos led things off with a single to right. Snyder walked. Majewski would then single to left to load the bases. Harriman would strike out for the first out. Appert poped out to center. Rogers would then line out to right.
