The offense got seven hits, the Cougars were 0-6 with runners in scoring position and would lose to Quad City 4-0.
The umps didnt help the matters much as they blew one call, and really didnt do the Cougars many favors tonight. Aaron Nieckula was ejected in the sixth inning, this was Aaron's eighth ejection, tying Dave Joppie for the most ejections all time by a Cougar.
Craig Italiano kept on throwing up zeros on the score board for the Cougars, as he went five innings and gave up three hits and three walks. Craig struck out six, and threw 71 pitches.
The game would be scoreless going into the sixth inning, that doesnt mean there were not some chances for both teams. For Quad City, with two outs in the first Charlie Kingrey walked. Francisco Rivera then singled to left. Paul Vasquez would then hit into a force to end the inning.
The fifth inning would be the biggest chance for the Bandits. Domnit Bolivar led off with a walk. Mike Folli bunted him to second. Jose Garcia then reached on an infield single, First and third with one out. Italiano then got Tommy Pham to ground into an inning ending double play.
The Cougars had a couple of chances in the first half of the game also. In the second inning with one out, Larry Cobb singled to left. Jonathan Johnston walked. Matt Ray one to first, the first baseman threw to short to double off Johnston to end the game.
With one out in the fourth, Jake Smith was hit by a pitch. One out later, Johnston walked. Ray then popped out to second to end the inning.
Quad City then in the sixth scored a run off of reliever Brad Hertzler. D'Marcus Ingram led off with a double to center. It really shouldn't have been a hit at all, as from what I saw, Corey Brown caught the ball. The base ump never went out there far enough to see if he caught it or not. Aaron Nieckula went out to discuss things, the ump meet and it was a hit. Nuke went Nuclear, getting ejected for the eighth time in his Cougar career. That ties Dave Joppie for most ejections by a Cougar. In the end he even spiked his helpmet, i've never seen a helmet bounce that far up before, wow. Back to the game and not the sideshow. Kingrey then grounded out to short. Riverathen grounded one to second for the second out, Ingram made it to third. Vazquez would single to right to score Ingram. Vazquez was then picked off by Hertzler to end the inning.
In the bottom of the inning the Cougars had a great chance to get back that run. Greg Dowling led off with a single to right. Corey Brown followed with another single to right. Jake Smith would move the runners over with a bunt. Larry Cobb got jammed and nubbed one to third for the second out. Johnston would ground out to first to end the inning.
More disater for the Cougars in the ninth inning as the Bandits got three more runs. Kingrey led off with a single to left. Rivera walked. Vazquez tripled to right to score both runs. Hertzler then threw a wild pitch to allow Vaquez to score.
Shane Keough led off the eighth inning with a single to right. Dowling then hit into a double play. In the ninth inning there was hope. Larry Cobb led off with a single to left. One out later, Matt Ray grounded out to second. I thought the first basemans foot was off the bag, and Ray was safe, but the base ump again made the wrong call. Adam Klein pitch hit for Carlos Arrieche and walked. Michael Lissman then flew to left to end the game.
The Quad City tandem of Nick Additon and Mark Diapuloues pitched very well. Additon started and went four innings giving up two hits, while walking three. Diapoloues then went the final five, giving up five hits and one walk.
