Quad City River Bandits at Kane County Cougars
May 25th, 2001
Phillip B. Elfstrom Stadium, Geneva, Illinios

Well this was a rather strange game to begin with, an ejection after the second batter of the game and extra innings. They sure gave us what we wanted to see, and then some.

Bandits hitting coach Floyd Rayford was thrown out of the game for arguing a called hit by pitch on the second hitter of the game. The call was that he was hit by the pitch, and the went to first base. Things got wierd after that when he was called back for what i've been told was that he had stepped out of the batter's box. Rayford went nuts after that and was thrown out. The batter Luis Maza eventually struck out. After the half inning, Maza was yelling at the base ump, who is the one who had said he wasn't hit by the pitch. Maza was thrown out, and manager Jeff Carter had to be held back by pitching coach Gary Lucas. I hope it wasn't intentional but the next inning the Cougars lead off hitter Chip Ambres was hit on the second pitch.

The Cougars would win the game in the eleventh inning on a single by catcher Dominic Woody.

In the game Matt DeMarco had three hits all singles. Josh Willingham walked four times.

Gustavo Lopez started and pitched well, he went six inning, giving up six hits and three runs. He walked one and struck out six. Gus pitched well in the first couple of innings, giving up two hits and striking out three.

The bullpen just shut things down, Chris Key, Steve Sawyer, Brandon Sloan and Hansel Izquierdo combined to go 5 ip, 2 h, 0 r, 0 er, 1 bb, 4 k

The scoring began in the fourth inning for the Bandits with one out when Justin Moreneau singled to right. Terry Tiffee singled to center to make it first and second. Kevin West then singled to left to load the bases. Rob Bowen singled to center to drive home Moreneau. Kelley Gulledge grounded out to third base, on the play Tiffee. Kevin West then scored on a wild pitch.

The Cougars then came back in the fifth when Pat Magness and Josh Willingham both walked. One out later, Matt Easterday walked to load the bases. Chip Ambres grounded out to the first baseman, on the play Magness would score. Matt DeMarco then singled to left to score Willingham. The Bandits then made a pitching change, the first hitter Brad Wies faced was Adrian Gonzalez and he singled to left to score Easterday.

The score would remain tied at three untill the eleventh inning when Miguel Cabrera lead things off with a walk. Pat Magness moved cabrera over on a groundout. Josh Willingham then walked. Dominic Woody singled to center to bring home Cabrera, for a Cougars victory.
