Michigan Battle Cats at Kane County Cougars
Tuesday, May 29th, 2001
Phillip B. Elfstrom Stadium, Geneva, Illinios
The Cougars offense took care of things today, with two homers. Miguel Cabrera and Matt
Easterday both hit bombs. Miguel's took the Cougars out to an early three to nothing lead.
Mike McNutt started and pitched five innings. Mike got through the first two innings perfectly. He had some trouble in the third giving up three straight hits, which resulted in the Cats getting a run on the board. McNutt was able to pitch the fourth with no trouble. The fifth inning the Cougars had a little bit of trouble with the lead off man getting on by way of an error. The next man tripled him home. After that a grounder would score another run. Mike has won five of his last six starts.
Manuel Esquivia then came in and pitched the next three innings. He did not pitch all that well, giving up a homer. Brandon Sloan came in for the ninth and gave up only one hit. He hasn't allowed a run in 7.2 innings pitched, which is in 12 days.
Miguel Cabrera hit hit third homer of the season in the first innings. Matt Easterday hit his first of the season in the fifth.
The scoring started in the firtst for the Cougars when with one out Matt DeMarco singled to left. Adrian Gonzalez then reached on an error by the short stop. On the play the Cats were going for the double play, but the short stop droped the ball, and they got nobody out. Miguel Cabrera then hit one that just barley made it over the wall, it hit on the cat walk below the scoreboard.
Michigan then scored one in the third when Joe Lydic lead things off with a double to left. Jason Maule then singled to right to get Lydic to third. Cristain Berrora singled to left to bring home Lydic.
Battle Cats tied the game up in the fifth when Joe Lydic lead things off by reaching on an error by third baseman Josh Willingham. Willingham basically had the ball go between his legs. Jason Maule tripled to left to score Lydic. Cristain Berrora then grounded out to short, on the play Maule scored to thie the game.
The Cougars then took the lead again in the bottom of the inning when, Matt Easterday lead the inning off with a homer that hit the middle of the scoreboard in left.
More fun for the Cougars in the sixth when Miguel Cabrera lead things off with a single to center. Pat Magness then doubled to left to score Cabrera. Matt Postell would pitch run for Magness, he would get to third on a balk. Josh Willingham then singled to center to score Postell. Willingham would score on a wild pitch.
In the seventh inning the Cats scored again when with two outs, Maule singled to right then stole second base. Berrora then hit a long one onto the deck in left, leftfielder Easterday almost made a great over the wall catch.

Russ Morman ejected from game
Attendence-6968, 6500 kids?
Notes-Not to complain that much but this was the worst umpiring crew that I have seen this year, from what I have seen this year there is only one good ump in the whole league. (Ria). The one thing that really got me was in the top of the ninth after the Cougars had made a pitching change to Sloan, Joe Lydic on what everyone thought was strike three, but according to the ump there was a foul tip. Now I don't know how there could've been a foul tip if the bat had gone through the zone before the ball. This ended up as Cougars manager Russ Morman came out and argued the call. Morman was thrown out for the first time this year, and I believe the second time in two years.
