It looked like it was going to be another one of those games again, after the Lugnuts scored three runs in the second. Somehow, seemlingly out of nowhere, considering our offense recently the Cougars would score seven runs in the fourth inning.
After the seven runs they would hold on, after the Lugnuts scored four in the seventh and the Cougars scored two in the eighth to a three run win. It broke the Cougars seven game losing streak.
With one out in the second inning, Luke Hetherington singled to left off of Cougar starter Jared Trout. Corey Patton followed with a bunt single to third. Trout then got Christian Snavley to strike out for the second out. Yuber Rodriguez then tripled in the right field gap to drive home both Hetherington and Patton. Juan Peralta singled to right to allow Rodriguez to score. Jason Armstrong singled to right to make it first and second with two outs. Peralta would be caught stealing third to end the inning.
Out of nowhere the Cougars scored seven runs in the fourth. Javier Herrera led off with a walk. Raul Padron then tripled to center to score Herrera. The rightfielder and centerfielder's both took the wrong route to the ball and that let it get to the wall for the triple. Myron Leslie doubled to left to score Padron. Jose Pineda singled to center to score Leslie. An errant pickoff throw from the pitcher sent Pineda to second. Eddie Kim singled to left to score Pineda. One out later, Nick Blasi walked. A wild pitch would move the runners to second and third. The Lugnuts then made a pitching change, onw out later, Ryan Ruiz would hit a three run homer to left. Javier Herrera then was hit by a pitch, he would then steal second. Raul Padron struck out to end the inning.
After all of that fun the Cougars were ahead 7-3. In the fifth inning they would add another run to the lead. With two outs, Eddie Kim launched one over everything in left. After that Tommy Everidge walked. Nick Blasi then singled to first. Kevin Melillo would line out to second to end the inning.
Lansing did score four runs in the seventh to get within one run of the Cougars. With one out, Juan Peralta beat out a bunt to third. Armstrong singled to right, that put runners on the corners with one out. Curtis Thigpen then grounded out to third, on the play Peralta would score. Erik Nielsen then walked. Chip Cannon hit his nineth homer to tie the league lead. This one went to right center.
The Cougars got two insurance runs in the eighth. Blasi led off with a single to center. Melillo then doubled to center to drive home Blasi. Ruiz got down the bunt to move Melillo to third with only one out. Herrera was intentionally walked. Raul Padron singled to center to score Melillo.
In the second inning with one out the Cougars had a chance to get some runs. Leslie singled to center. Pineda then followed with a single to center. First and second with one out. Kim popped up foul to first. Tommy Everidge did the same thing, which ended the inning.
Lansing could've won the game, in the fourth with one out, Snavley singled to third. One out later, Peralta lined one to second, in which Melillo knocked down, everyone was safe on the play. Trout then was able to get out of it when Armstron lined out to left.
