What a good game, we saw at Elfstrom Stadium today. The Cougars won 2-1, two of the runs were off of sacrifce flies, and another off of an error. Both starters had good outings, and the bullpens held for the most part. It was a bit frustrating but thats become normal for the fans of the Cougars this year.

The Lugnuts didnt get a runner on base until one out in the third, they didnt get a hit untill the second hitter in the fifth. After that they would jump out to a one to nothing lead. The Cougars on the other hand were on base but never could get past second base untill the fifth inning.

Lansing scored their run in the fifth, Luke Hetherington led off with a walk. David Hicks then singled to left, he would get to second on a throw to third from the left fielder. David Carrente hit a sacrifice fly to center, Hetherington would tag up and score, with Hicks moving on into third. Yuber Rodirguez followed with a walk. Juan Peralta lined out to short. Jason Armstrong then lined out to center to end the inning.

The Cougars would answer right away, with a run of their own. Jose Pineda led off with a walk. Chalon Tietje grounded out to third, Pineda moved on to second. Kory Wayment walked. Travis Chapman would reach on an error by second baseman Peralta. On the play Pineda scored. Kevin Melillo and Wes Long would both pop out which would end the inning.

In the eighth inning the Cougars scored their other run. Eddie Kim led off by pitch hitting for Wes Long, Kim would walk. Javier Herrera then struck out looking. Tommy Everidge singled to left. The Cougars pitch ran for Kim with Nick Blasi. Myron Leslie then walked, which would load the bases. Pineda hit a sacrifice fly to center to allow Blasi to score. Tietje struck out to end the inning.

Chi-Hung Cheng pitched well for the Lugnuts. He went six inning only giving up two hits and one unearned run. He walked four, which is what eventually got him in trouble. Cheng struck out two Cougars. He got into trouble in the first inning, Melillo led off with a walk. Wes Long would then strike out. Javier Herrera then popped out to second for the second out. Tommy Everidge then walked, runners on first and second with two outs. Leslie would pop out to second to end the inning.

In the second inning the Cougars also got the leadoff man aboard. Pineda singled to right, unfortunatly he would be picked off of first base by Cheng.

Ryan Webb pitched well, he went into the sixth inning, giving up all of one hit and one run. He walked four and struck out four, in 96 pitches. Ryan retired the first seven he faced before allowing a walk to Rodriguez. After that he retired the next five before giving up the leadoff walk in the fifth. Webb would leave after getting the first two hitters out in the sixth inning. Ryan walked Chip Cannon, then the Cougars brought in Keith Perez. He would get Hetherington to fly to center to get out of the inning.

Perez allowed, David Hicks to single to right to leadoff the seventh inning. Keith was able to get Carrente to fly to right for the first out. Rodriguez then grounded into an inning ending double play.

Jose Corchado made it interesting in the ninth to close things off. I guess he caught the old "Almonte Syndrome". Corchado gave up a leadoff walk to Erik Nielsen on four pitches. Chip Cannon then popped out to center. Hetherington then would walk, also on four straight pitches. Jose then was able to get Hicks to ground into the game ending double play.

The Cougars made a roster move today, Chris Tritle went on the disabled list with a left elbow inflamation. Marcus McBeth joined the Cougars again, he was with us in 2003 as a outfielder. This time he is in the bullpen, and looking to make his pro debut as a pitcher.

Notes-Great catch by Diane (sits behind the loudmouth behind home plate), caught the bal off of the netting making a nice catch.

I will be in West Michigan for tomorrow's game
