Through six innings there was no score in a good pitching battle. Scott Deal pitched five innings in his second start of the year. He gave up four hits and three walks.

The offenses started in the seventh with three runs for the Cougars. Justin Frash led off with a single to left. Adam Klein then pitch ran. One out later, Jonathan Johnston singled to right, Klein made it to third. Johnston would get to second on an error by the right fielder. Michael Richard then hit a liner to left. Klein tagges up and scored on the sacrifice. Larry Cobb then hit a two run homer to right.

Another run for the Cougars in the eighth. With one out, Corey Brown singled to center. Michael Lissman then walked. Carlos Arrieche would single to right to score Brown.

Leonardo Espinal really brought back some flash backs of former Cougar relievers (Nelson Lara-Hector Almonte) with his performance. In the eighth inning with one out, Julio Perez singled to left, then went to second on a wild pitch. Throwing behind the runner a few pitches later, catcher Johnston threw into center. Perez went to third on the error. Gordon Gronkowski then grounded out to short to score Perez.

The inning that got the blood presure up was the ninth, the Kernels would score twice and have the winning run up to bat. With two outs, Andrew Romine reached on an error by Espinal. The ball was hit to Greg Dowling at first and the ball was thrown to Espinal covering first. He missed the ball. Hector Estrella then singled to left, Romine went to third. Justin Friend then came into replace Espinal. Efran Navarro then singled up the middle to score both Romine and Estrella. Up by one run with a runner on first and two outs. Friend would strike out Jay Brossman to end the game.

Deal pitched well in his five innings. In the first he got a much needed force out to erase a one out single. The second inning was a little harder. With two outs, Gordon Gronkowski hit one near the warning track in center. Centerfielder Corey Brown had the ball go right off of his glove. Gronkowski would get a triple. Chris Rosenbaum then flew to center to end the inning.

The fourth was a little even more challening. Navarro led off with a walk. Deal then struck out Brossman, and got Julio Perez to pop out to left. Gronkowski singled to left. First and second with two outs, Rosenbaum would then strike out. With one out in the fifth inning, Clay Fuller and Andrew Romine walked. The Kernels were going to try a double steal. Fuller would be picked off at second, in the rundown, Romine stole second. Hector Estrella grounded out to end the inning.

Kernels starter Trevor Reckling went six innings, giving up two hits, no runs and got four strikeouts. He walked five Cougars. In the first inning, Michael Richard led off the game with a single to center. Larry Cobb then lined one off the Recklings glove. He picked it up and got Richard at second. Cobb would then be picked off of first. Dowling walked. Danny Hamblin then struck out.

The Cougars would get the bases loaded in the third and strand them all. With two outs, Cobb was hit in the back by a pitch. Dowling then singled to left. Hamblin walked. Corey Brown would ground one to first to end the inning.

The fifth inning saw Jonathan Johnston lead off with a walk. Richard then reached on a fielder's choice, Johnston would be out at second. Richard then stole second. Cobb flew to left, Richard forgot how many outs there were and was rounding third, and then he would be doubled off second to end the inning.

The first reliever out of the bullpen for the Cougars was Brent Lysander. He had to get out of trouble in both innings he pitched. In the sixth with one out, Brossman singled back to him. One out later, Gronkowski walked. Lysander would be able to get Rosenbaum to hit into a force out to end the inning. In the seventh he gave up a lead off single to Tyler Johnson. Johnson then stole second, the throw was off and Johnson went to third on the error. Lysander would get a foul pop up and a strike out for the first two outs of the inning. With runners on first and third, Navarro would pop out to second to end the inning.
