There is one thing certain about this years team, you have to count the outs in the game and none of them are a given. THe Cougars would lose 10-8 after being ahead 7-0 after three innings. They gave up a nine run fourth inning that was the game.
The Cougars got on the board first in the first inning. Kevin Melillo led off the game with a homer to left. One out later, Javier Herrera singled to third. Raul Padron then doubled to right to score Herrera. One out later, Jose Pineda walked to load the bases with two outs. Eddie Kim then grounded out to first to end things.
A five run second would come in handy for the Couars. Tommy Everidge led it off with a single to short. Nick Blasi followed up with a single to center. Melillo walked to load the bases. Kory Wayment would be hit by a pitch to force in Everidge. Herrera reached on an error by the third baseman. Blasi would score, and the bases would remain loaded. Padron hit a sacrifice fly to left to score Melillo. One out later, Pineda doubled to left to score both Wayment and Herrera.
The roof collapsed on the Cougars in the fourth inning. nick McIntyre led off by reaching on a bunt single, near Padron. Jeff Frazier hit a two run homer to left. Wilkin Ramirez followed with a solo shot to left. One out later, Matt Parrish singled to second. Jody Roughton then reached on an error by Wayment. Alex Graham singled to third to load the bases. Justin Justice then doubled to right to score Parrish, Roughton, and Graham. Stephen Young then singled to left to score Justice. McIntyre singled to center. Frazier again, this time doubled to left to score Young. The Cougars then brought in Steve Sharpe to replace Derek Tharpe. Ramirez greated Sharpe with a sacrifice fly to right to score McIntyre. Dlugach lined to second to finally end the inning.
West Michigan added another run in the sixth inning. Young led off with a bunt single to third, he then stole second base. McIntyre walked. One out later, Ramirez singled to center to score Young. Both runners would advance a base on a wild pitch. Dlugach struck out to end the inning.
Tommy Everidge hit a solo shot to lead off the eighth inning for the Cougars only other scoring. They could've scored some runs in the fifth inning. Wayment led off with a single to third. Herrera grounded out to third. Padron flew out to left. Leslie walked. First and second with two outs. Pineda reached on a fielder's choice, with Leslie being out at second.
Belive it or not the score could've been worse. young led of the first inning with a walk. McIntyre then popped up foul to the catcher. Tharpe then got Frazier to ground into the inning ending double play. In the eighth with one out, McIntyre doubled to right against reliever Marcus McBeth. Frazier and Ramirez would both fly to center which ended the inning.
Jose Corchado pitched the seventh and got into some trouble. Parrish led off with a single to right. Jody Roughton then grounded out to first. Parrish would steal third. Corchado then got Graham to ground out to first for the second ot. Justice grounded to short.
