The game went into extra innings and the Clinton Lumberkings outlasted the Kane County Cougars in eleven innings 7-6.

The eleventh inning, the Cougars had their closer Scott Moore pitching in his second inning of relief. Moore gave up a leadoff single to Marcus Lemon to left. Jose Vallejo then bunted Lemon to second. Scott Moore then gave up a intentional walk to Johnny Whittleman after falling behind in the count. Chad Tracy was then able to coax a walk to load the bases with one out. K.C. Herren singled to right to score Lemon. Moore was then able to get Mauro Gomez and David Peterson on strikes to avoid giving up any more runs.

Kane County tied the game in the ninth inning with one out. Jermaine Mitchell hit a solo homer down the right field line. It just stayed fair.

The Cougars got out to a three run lead in the first inning. Mike Massaro led it off by reaching on an error by the second baseman Jose Vallejo. Larry Cobb was then able to reach on an infield single to second. Mitchell followed with a single to left to score Massaro. Haas Pratt then singled up the middle to score Cobb. Greg Dowling singled to right to score Mitchell. A wild pitch moved the runners into scoring position. Lumberking starter Zack Phillips then got David Castillo, Alex Valdex and Matt Sulentic out to end the inning.

Zack Phillips pitched six and one thirds innings, giving up eight hits and five runs, four earned. He walked no one and struck out five. For the Cougars, James Heuser got nailed with two homers in his five and two thirds innings of work. He gave up seven hits and six runs, four of which were earned. He walked one and struck out threee.

Clinton got back in the game in the second inning when they scored a run. With one out, Herren tripled to center. Gomez then grounded out to second, and Herren would score.. Peterson would then reach on an error by thirdbaseman Sammy Hernandez, Peterson made it to second on the error. Kevin Gossage was then hit by a pitch. It looked to hit him in the left leg, around the knee. He was limping but stayed in the game. Heuser then got David Paisano to strike out to get out of trouble.

With one out in the fourth inning, Herren again started a rally for Clinton. This time he reached on a bunt single to third. Mauro Gomez then took Heuser deep to tie the game. Peterson singled to left. Gossage then reached on a fielder's choice. Valdez flipped the ball to Cobb, who then got flipped by Peterson. The ball came loose or Cobb just never had it as both runners were safe on the play. Heuser then got Paisano to pop up foul to third, and Lemon to pop up to third to end the inning.

Two more runs for Clinton in the fifth inning again with one out. Johnny Whittelman started it off by reaching on an error by leftfielder Matt Sulentic. Sulentic plain and simply droped the ball, Whittleman made it to second on the error. Chad Tracy then took Heuser deep. Herren followed with a double to right. Gomez lined to center, and Herren would be able to tag up and move to third with two outs. Peterson then grounded out to end the inning.

The sixth inning saw both teams score runs. Clinton scored once, Gossage led off by reaching on an error by shortstop Alex Valdez. Two outs later, Vallejo walked. The Cougars then took Heuser out and brought in Brandon Dewing. Whittleman greated Dewing with a single to center to score Gossage. In the bottom of the inning the Cougars scored twice. With two outs David Castillo singled to right. Alex Valdez then took one deep to left center.

The Cougars had their chances to score more runs throughout the game. In the seventh inning, Sammy Hernandez led off with a single to first. Massaro bunted him over. The Kings then made a pitching change. Brennen Garr came in for Phillips. Larry Cobb walked. Mitchell then lined to right. Haas Pratt walked to load the bases with two outs. Greg Dowling flew out to center to end the inning. In the eighth inning with two outs, Sulentic and Hernandez both walked. Massaro then singled to left. Sulentic would try to score and be toast.

The Cougar bullpen had to put out some fires also. In the first inning Heuser got into trouble right off the bat. Lemon led off the game with a double to right, then was balked to third. Vallejo grounded out. Whittleman then lined to third and Lemon would be caught straying off of third. In the seventh inning Dewing gave up a leadoff double to Herrne. Gomez then reached on a fielder's choice with Herren being out at third. Two lineouts to second later the inning was over. In the eighth inning with one out Lemon reached on an error by Larry Cobb, this was a throwing error and led to Lemon making second on the play. Vallejo then grounded out to first and Whittleman followed with another groundout to first.

For the first time since 2004 an opponent had five hits against the Cougars. K.C. Herren pulled the trick today, as he had a triple in the second. A bunt single in the fourth. Doubled in the fifth and seventh, and the game winning single in the ninth. Brandon Dewing did a nice job out of the Cougars bullpen, he went three and one thirds innings, and gave up two hits, and no runs.

The Cougars made some roster moves today. Jake Smith offically went on the disabled list today with a torn right labrum in his shoulder, he is done for the year. A Cougars from 2004-2005 is back, David Castillo. Inoel Deaza went to the disabled list. Sammy Hernandez is up from extended spring training. In alumni news, Marcus McBeth was recalled by Cincinnati from Louisville. When he makes his debut he will become the 92nd former Cougar to make the majors.
