June 4th, 2004
Steve Bondurant pitched another gem, this time for his ninth win of the year. Which ties him for 18th on the all time Cougar win list. He pitched seven innings of two hit ball. Steve gave up two walks and struck out seven.
The Kings got one runner to second base, actually Micah Furtado went all the way to third in the fourth inning. After that he retired the final eleven he faced, with five of those being strike outs.
Bondurant also got two double plays, one in the first inning. He walked the first man, struck out the second, Bondurant got Ian Kinsler to ground into the double play. In the third inning, Larry Grayson led off with a single. Cody Clark then grounded into a double play to erase the Grayson from the bases.
Offensivly it was then Vasili Spanos show. He hit a two run homer in the fourth, and had a two run single in the fifth. Vasili would score two runs on the day. Dustin Majewski also had two hits, and scored a run. He drove in a run in the second on a sacrifice fly. Luis Perez contribuated to the fun with two hits, a double and a run scoring single in the sixth.
The fun began in the second inning for the Cougars, Spanos would reach on an error by the second baseman. Brian Snyder then singled to center. The centerfielder would have some trouble with the ball which let both runners move up a base. Majewski then drov ehome Spanos with the first run of the game, with a sacrifice fly to left. Luis Perez and Nick Rogers both struck out to end the inning.
David Castillo led off the fourth inning with a single to left. Spanos then hit a homer to right field to drive in Castillo and give the Cougars a three run lead. The fifth inning saw more fun for the Cougars as they would extend the lead to five. With two outs, Luke Appert singled to left. David Castillo then walked. Spanos would double to right field to score both Appert and Castillo. Spanos who I think might run even slower the both former Cougars Brett Roneberg and Brant Colamarino, would be caught trying for a triple, to end the inning.
Adding another insurance run in the sixth inning with one out to make it a six run lead. Majewski doubled down the right field line. He would get to third on a wild pitch. Luis Perez then singled to left to bring home Majewski.
The bullpen, or should I say J.R. Pickens would make it interesting, giving up three runs in the bottom of the ninth. With one out Micah Furtado doubled to left. Ian Kinsler then doubled to right to score Furtado. Josh Kruezer was hit by a pitch. One out later, Jason Fransz doubled to left center to bring home both Kinsler and Kruezer to make it a three run game. Cougar manager Dave Joppie had seen enough and brought in Manny Rodriguez, who struck out Larry Grayson to end the game.
