Brad Knox pitches a gem of a game, as he got his fifth win of the season. He went seven innings, giving up five hits and one run. He walked one and struck out five. He retired 12 of the first 13 Caps he faced.
In the first inning he had to get out of a little bit of trouble. Vince Blue lead off the game with a double to center. Juan Francia then bunted him over to second. Kody Kirkland struck out for the second out. Kelly Hunt would ground out to first to end the threat. The next problem came in the fifth inning, the Caps also wouldn't score in that inning either. Eric Rodland led things off with a single to center. Garth McKinney then followed with a double to center. Rodland stoped at third on the play. Nick McIntyre would reach on a fielder's choice, on the play Rodland would be thrown out at the plate, by third baseman Brian Snyder. Alex Trezzo then struck out for the second out. Luis Sabino would ground out to second to end the inning.
That's how the first few innings went for the Whitecaps, it was a diffrent story for the Cougars, as they would score four times in the third inning, and keep on scoring. Vasili Spanos led off with a walk. One out later Chris Tritle doubled to left. The throw home from the shortstop was high, and as soon as it was, the catcher got out of Spanos way as fast as he could. Tritle would make third on the throw. Brian Ingram singled to center to score Tritle. Ingram stole second, but it really didn't matter as Luis Perez took one over the left field fense for a two run homer.
Kody Kirkland would hit a solo homer in the sixth inning to get West Michigan on the scoreboard. An inning and a half later the Cougars would put four more runs on the board. Brian Snyder led off by beating out an infield single. Dustin Majewski was then hit by a pitch. Spanos doubled to left to score both Snyder and Majewski. The Caps then made a pitching change to bring in Damien Myers to replace Chris Steinborn. Myers would walk both Appert and Tritle, which would load the bases. Ingram would then reach on a fielder's choice, on the play Spanos would be out at the plate, the bases were still loaded. Perez singled to left to bring homer Appert. Castillo would walk, which would force in Tritle. Eddie Kim hit into an inning ending double play.
West Michigan tried to make an game of it in the eighth inning when they scored two runs. The Cougars had just taken out Brad Knox in favor of Manny Rodriguez. Alex Trezzo led off with a double to center. Luis Sabino followed with a double to right to score Trezzo. Vince Blue bunted Sabino to third. Jaun Francia single to center to score Sabino. This made the Cougars led five runs. Kelly Hunt hit a liner to short, Ingram threw to first for the inning ending double play.
Brian Snyder hit a solo homer way over the scoreboard in left center to make the final score nine to three.
