At least this time they didnt get way ahead and loose the lead in all of one inning. The Cougars were never ahead in the game, but almost pulled it out. They would loose 4-3 in the final game of the season versus the Fort Wayne Wizards.
Derek Tharpe pitched well. He went seven innings, he kept the Cougars in the ball game. Yes he gave up three runs, but they were all in the fourth inning on three hits. In all he gave up eight hits, the first one wasnt untill the leadoff man in the third. The good news is that he only walked one, the bad news is that one walk would come around to score. Tharpe struck out six hitters.
Fort Wayne started the scoring in the fourth inning with those three runs. Matt Lauderdale led off with a single to left. Colt Morton walked. Lachlan Dale then singled to center. The Wizards held the runner at third making it bases loaded, even though he was holding him up before centerfielder Javier Herrera even got to the ball. One out later, Ruben Mora singled to right to score both Lauderdale and Morton. Matt Bush then would reach on a fielder's choice. On the play Morea would be out at second, but not before breaking up the possible double play and allowing Dale to score.
Kane County came back in the bottom of the inning to score two runs. Ryan Ruiz led off by drawing a walk. Javier Herrera followed with a single to center. Raul Padron then hit one to second. On the play the second baseman, Sean Kazman tried to field the ball by just reaching the glove out and not getting in front of it. The ball would go under his glove and be called a hit. Ruiz would score on the play. Myron Leslie then hit a sacrifice fly to center to score Herrera. One out later, Chalon Tietje singled up the middle, just off of the second baseman's glove. Padron went to third on the single. Eddie Kim then lined one to center to end the inning.
The next time either team would score would be the eighth inning. Both teams put up one run in the inning. The Wizards had Brett Dowdy lead off by drawing a walk. He then stole second, and went to third on a wild pitch. One out later, Morton hit a sacrifice fly to score Dowdy. The Cougars run would come with one out, Ruiz singled to right, then stole second. One out later, Padron singled to center to score Ruiz.
In the third inning, Ruben Mora led off with a single to center. Matt Bush then followed with a single to left. One out later, Brian Fryer would reach on a fielder's choice. On the play Bush would be out at second, with Mora getting to third. First and third with two outs. Tharpe had Fryer picked off of first, but Kim couldnt get a good angle on the throw to second, so he made no throw. Dowdy grounded out to third to end the inning. In the fifth inning the Wizards would have another chance to score some runs. Yordanny Ramirez led off with a double to center, then stole second. Tharpe was able to get Fryer to line to right for the first out. Dowdy struck out and Lauderdale grounded out to end the inning and strand the runner at third.
Colt Morton led off the sixth with a double down the left field line. Dale would pop out to right. Kazman then grounded out to third. Mora then struck out to strand Morton at second. Bush led off the seventh with a single. Bush basically beat the pitcher to first. Tharpe then got Ramirez to ground into a double play. The next shot the Wizards would have to tack on a run would be the ninth inning. Kazmar led off by reaching on a tapper near the third baseline. Mora then moved him to second with a bunt. Bush would strike out. On the play it was a droped third strike, Kazmar went to third. Bush didnt know it was droped till after the catcher got the ball, and he would be thrown out at first for the second out. Ramirez then grounded out to short to strand the runner at third. The Wizards got the leadoff man on base each of the last seven innings. He would score twice, and reach at least third five times.
The Cougars would also have some chances. Padron led of the second with a walk. Leslie reached on a fielder's choice. Pineda then grounded into a double play. In the fifth with one out, Melillo singled to center, then stole second. Ruiz flew out to center, and Melillo tagged up and went to third. Herrera struck out to end the inning.
