Well, the offense showed up for work today, they pumped out 16 hits and 11 runs. Tommy Everidge hit a grand slam, the teams third of the year. by three diffrent players. Javier Herrera also contribuated a homer.

The story of the game though was Tony Evans who made his Cougars debut today. His contract was just purchase a few days ago from Sioux Falls of the Independant Northern league. He pitched into the seventh, giving up eight hits and three runs. Two of those runs were earned, he also walked one. Evans also struck out four.

In the first inning he would get into some trouble. Deacon Burns led off with a double to left. Evans then was able to get Luke Hughes to ground out, Jeremy Pickrel to be caught looking. Plus he got David Winfree to ground out to end the inning. The next trouble would come in the fourth inning. With one out, Winfree doubled to right. Winfree would move to third on a ground out. Trevor Plouffe then flew out to left to end the inning.

The Snappers would get unearned run in the fifth inning. With one out, Javier Sanchez singled back to the mound. Evans made a throwing error that would allow Sanchez to get to third on the play. Evans then struck out Tarrance Patterson. Burns then doubled to right to score Sanchez. Hughes would strike out to end the inning.

The Cougars had early chances to put up some runs. In the first inning, Kevin Melillo led off the game with a walk. Ryan Ruiz then grounded into a double play. In the second inning, Raul Padron led off with a walk. Myron Leslie then singled to right. One out later, Nick Blasi would single to left to load the bases with one out. Tommy Everidge then struck out. Gregorio Petit popped out to second to end the inning. The fourth inning saw, Padron lead off with a single to third. One out later, Jose Pineda grounded into the inning ending double play.

Finally the Cougars offense would show up in the fifth inning with four runs. With one out, Everidge singled to left. Petit then doubled to left. Melillo doubled to right to score both Everidge and Petit. Melillo would be caught off of second for the second out. Ruiz singled to right. Herrera then hit a two run homer to right for his fifth of the year.

The Snappers then scored their run in the fifth, the Cougars came back in the sixth with four more runs. Leslie led it off with a single to center. Pineda then doubled to right. The Snappers then changed pitchers. Kyle Aselton came in for Josh Hill. Aselton walked Blasi to load the bases. Everidge then hit a grand slam to center field. Kory Wayment pitch hit for Petit and would be caught looking. Melillo and Ruiz both flew out to left to end the inning.

In the seventh inning the Snappers would find home plate twice. With two outs, Evans walked Sanchez. Patterson then followed with a two run homer to left field. Burns singled to center. The Cougars then brought in Jose Corchao in relief, he would strike out Hughes to get out of the inning.

Blasi doubled to left to lead off the eighth. One out later, Wayment singled to the pitcher, Blasi would get to third. Melillo then hit a sacrifice fly to center to allow Blasi to score. Ruiz walked, Herrera would then be caught looking to end the inning.

In the ninth the Cougars added two runs. Padron led off by being hit by a pitch. Leslie then singled to right. Pineda doubled to center to score Padron. Blasi would ground out to short, on the play Leslie scored. Everidge then popped out to second for the second out. Wayment was caught looking again, this time to end the inning.

Jose Corchado caught the 'Almonte Syndrome' in the ninth inning. Trevor Plouffe led off with a single to center, Corchado then threw a couple of wild pitches. The end result was Plouffe would end up on third with nobody out. Dwayne White walked, and so did Sanchez, the last walk would load the bases with nobody out. Haven't we been here a few times already this season. The Cougars then made a pitching change, bring in Robert Semerano. Patterson hit a sacrifice fly to right to allow Plouffe to score. Semerano then got Burns to line out to left. Hughes would ground out to first to end the game.

Kane County could've scored a few more times in the game. In the seventh inning, Herrera led off with a single to right. Padron would reach on a fielder's choice, with Herrera out at second. On the play the throw from the second baseman was wild and resulted in an error, padron would get to second. He got to third on a wild pitch. Leslie then flew out to center. Pineda fouled out to third to end the inning.

Notes-Well lets see today its raining and im in St. Paul, Minnesota. I was going to watch the Fargo-Moorehead Red Wings vs the St. Paul Saints, but only a horrible rain storm ten minutes before the game stoped that. i was able to talk to and get a pic of former Cougar Joe Sergent who is playing with Fargo. He is schedules to pitch game two of the double header tomorrow, I wish I could go.


Cougar News;
Chris Tritle, Chalon Tietje, Clay Tichota and Wes Long were all assigned to Vancouver as they start their season in a week or so. Gregorio Petit was taken off of the disabled list. The Cougars have one open spot on their roster as it now stands at 24.

1992, Jimmy Haynes scatteres five South Bend hits in nine innings of work to help the Cougars to a 2-1 win.

2000, Calvin Chipperfield of West Michigan no hits the Cougars in game two of a double header. This is the second time in this four game series the Cougars get no hit. This time by a score of 2-0.
