Who turned off the power at Elfstrom Stadium today. Not only on the field but everywhere. Ok, the fun part is that the game was played without electricity, because of the storms. That ment no public address announcer, no scoreboard, no nothing.

The game itself was won by Cedar Rapids 3-2 to sweep the series. This is the first time this year the Cougars have been swept in a series.

The three runs for Cedar Rapids came in the seventh inning off of starter Jamie Richmond. Jay Brossman started off the inning with a single to left, then stole second. Gordon Gronkowski then bunted him to third. One out later, Anel De Los Santos then reached on an error by Matt Ray. Brossman would score. Tyler Johnson then hit a two run homer.

Kane County did score two runs in the game. The first one came in the seventh inning. Greg Dowling led off with a walk. Kernels pitcher Trevor Bell then had two consectitive balks, so Dowling ended up on third with no outs. Larry Cobb singled to left to score Dowling. In the eighth inning, Shane Keough led off with a single to right, then stole second. Two outs later, Corey Brown singled to left. Michael Richard followed with a single to right to score Keough. Dowling would then pop out to end the inning.

The Cougars did have some more chances throughout the game against Kernel start Jordan Walden. In the second inning, Cobb led off with a single to left. Justin Frash then flew to center, The ball I guess looked to Cobb like it was going to be a hit, he was all the way around second when it was caught. Unfortunatly on his way back to first he would forget to tag second base, and be called out. In the fourth inning, Brown led off with a walk. Richard then hit into a double play.

Fifth inning, Cobb led off with a single to center. Frash would bunt him to second. Dusty Napoleon then walked. Keough hit one to third. The third baseman stepped on third for the first out, then couldn't get Keough at first to complete the double play. Runners on first and second with two outs. Dante Love then grounded out back to the pitcher to end the inning.

In the ninth inning, Cobb led off with a walk. Frash bunted him to second. Napoleon then popped up foul to third weekly. Keough would fly to center to end the game.

Jamie Richmond did not pitch that badly, in the loss. He went seven innings, giving up four hits and three unearned runs. In the first inning he would give up a one out walk to Andrew Romine. Romine then stole second, and would get to third on a ground out. Richmond would then get Efran Navarro to ground one back to him to get out of trouble. Besides that he really wouldn't have any trouble besides the seventh inning.

Ok now the fun part, since the power was out, things were really old fashioned. No scoreboard, or actually let me correct myself, the normal scoreboards were not functioning. So they had writin a scoreboard on pieces of paper and tapped then to the window in the scorer's booth for everyone to see.

That is not all, since there was no power for the scoreboards. There also were no power for the concession stands, so the menu was very limited. I will say the beer was still cold though. Also Cougar radio announcer Jeff Hem, didnt have his normal digital hookup to call the game. He had to call it the old fashioned way, by telephone.

I will say this he did sound better this way then he normally does. Even without the scoring updates. The weird things was that five minutes after the last out, the power came back on.

The public address announcer Kevin Sullivan also had to leave his normal perch in the press box since there was no electricity to power the p.a. In the begining of the game he was dragging the infield and stuff. Finally towards the middle of the game he got a megaphone and got back to what he is good at. You could barley hear him but at least you knew a little more of what was going on. The onfield stuff was weird, it started with the National Antheim, the singer's microphone didnt work of course. So sorry but, almost like a Hawks game, ok no where near as load, but everyone helped sing the antheim. The birthday boy celebration on the field, everyone helped sing happy birthday to him. Nobody knew what was happening though with the other on field stuff, as they still had the cart race and the mascot race.

Ok the funs over, Brent Lysander got sent to Vancouver.
