The Cougars put together eleven hits and eight runs against the Clinton Lumberkings in the second game of the series. The Cougars are now 2-0 in the second half of the season.

Scott Deal started and pitched well for the Cougars. He would give up two runs on seven hits. He went into the sixth inning. He really only made two mistakes in the game. He would give up a solo shot to lead off the fifth inning to Cristian Santana. In the sixth inning, Renny Osuna led off with a double to right. Two pop outs later, Santana singled to right to score Osuna.

Deal got out of some trouble in the third inning. Carlos Dominguez led off with a single to left. One out later, Andres James then reached on a fielder's choice, Dominguez was out at second. Matt Lawson then singled to right. Right fielder Larry Cobb did a nice job to corral the ball and get it back in to hold Lawson to a single. Engel Beltre then lined one near the wall in center. Corey Brown had a really long way to go and still made the nice catch.

Meanwhile, the Cougars would score most of their runs in the second inning. Greg Dowling led off with a single to center. Dan Hamblin then reached on a fielder's choice, Dowling would be out. The only reason it wasn't a double play was the throw pulled the first baseman off the bag. Justin Frash then singled to right. Dante Love, then finally got his first Cougar hit. He was 0 for 14. He singled to left to score Hamblin. Matt Ray then walked to load the bases. Adam Klein would then strike out for the second out. Michael Richard then came up. On the fourth pitch he saw he fouled it off of his foot. On the sixth pitch he saw he hit a homer foul to left The next pitch was again fouled off of his foot. He looked to be in a lot of pain, but that pain I think was not as bad after the next pitch. He would hit it a long ways for a grand slam, his second homer of the year.

The fifth inning would see the Cougars put up two more runs. Richard led off the inning with a single to center, then stole second. Cobb would reach on a throwing error by the third baseman. Richard would score on the error and Cobb went to second. Two outs later, Hamblin singled to short to allow Cobb to score.

The last run for the Cougars came in the seventh inning. With two outs, Justin Frash singled to center. Dante Love then doubled to left to score Frash.

Clinton wasn't done scoring. In the seventh inning with one out, Engel Beltre doubled to right. Renny Osuna reached on a throwing error by third baseman Justin Frash. Beltre would score and Osuna went to second.

The Cougars had some other chances to score in the game. In the third inning, Brown led off with a walk, stole second and third. One out later, Hamblin reached on a fielder's choice, Brown would be out at home. The ball was hit at short and the throw home was there for the second out. In the sixth inning the Cougars would leave the bases loaded. With two outs, Klein singled to short. Richard was then hit by a pitch. Cobb walked to load the bases. Brown would strike out to end the inning.

Notes-Well it was nice to sit out the rain delay in the season ticket holder tent, the only problem was they ran out of beer, no I did not run them out of it. Oh man it was a downpour, but the Cougar groundscrew did a nice job of getting the field in good condition.

This should be fun, the Hawks picked an edgy left winger in the first round, who has a tendency for fighting. Then in five of the next six round they pick deffensemen.
